and my oil leakage at the rear seal by 75% !!! Now I'll put off replacing the seal a while longer.

That sounds like there might be an obstruction in your factory breather tube that exits on the left side of the engine under the fuel filter. If it were working then changing to a breather on the filler cap shouldn't make a difference in crankcase pressure.
Just a thought, might be worth checking out.

no obstruction there; just more blowby than it can handle! I suspect such is the case with a lot of Cummins judging by the amount of spray they generate out of the vent tube!

Boosting the earlier models at higher levels tends to up the blow-by more than the new versions, the rings were updated in the new series. I don't know when however, BigDon knows for sure. The blowby on mine went up a fair share with the increase in boost levels.

I took a rubber grommet-mounted K&N style breather filter and just screwed it into the filler tube. Works fine and cost less than $20. Got it at Pep Boys or Discount Auto; don't remember which!
