Well, finally replaced the starter contacts after 133,499 miles. Pretty easy job, believe me I'm not that inclined, and followed the instructions provided by LarryB. Good step by step instructions when you don't have a clue what your doing. The three bolts were easy to remove except the top one. Just hard to get too, but not bad. They weren't over tightant like some people mentioned. I thought at first I wasn't going to get the starter all the way out because of some metal parts in the way but once I tilted it a little it pulled right out. Greased the little ball as recommended. My original contacts were pretty much like this. Right contact hardly showed any wear. Starter cable contact had a lot of wear, down to 1/32" on the ends to 1/16" in the middle section. The original thickness was 1/8". Glad I did this and with my new Deka batteries starts goooood. Just for info. Thanks for all your info. :D :D

I had my starter go out yesterday, so I had to replace it with a new NAPA starter for $197. I had planned to do the contacts but didn't get around to it so now I'm going to rebuild the old one and save it as a spare. My contacts looked like yours did but worse.

Don't wait too long or it will bite you.

Does LarryB have an alternator rebuild kit. ????

Has anyone lost an alternator yet and at what mileage????

I put his kit in my starter last year. Works excellent.

Alternator brushes

larryB has a brush kit for the alternator. Changed mine at 235K. there was still some life left in the old ones but definitely were getting short compared to the new ones. Glad I did it. BTW it was amazing how smooth those alternator bearings felt after all those miles. My first inclination was to put in a new alternator for reliability but went with just RR the brushes. Hope it lasts long enough to wear out the new brushes.

I would like to buy a brush kit. Would you have his website or contact information? Thansk ahead.

had my starter take a crap at 135k replaced with junk napa starter that lasted till 142k (ground when it was doin cold weather start ups) now have another napa in place all is good. Then alt. took a dive at 143k. Wish I knew about the kits but oh well live and learn.....

I just put in Larry B's starter contacts today. The one was down to about 1/32", the other didn't look too bad. Great, fast service. I ordered them (and a turbo shield and drain plug) on Monday. They arrived on Wednesday. The heat shield looks really nice. I removed my homemade one that basically shielded the BHAF. The contacts were easy to replace, but as mentioned above, you have to be a sort of contortionist to reach the top starter bolt. I didn't notice any difference in the starting, but I have had a few "no starts" recently. I though it might be my batteries, but they're up to snuff. Hopefully, it was the contacts crapping out that caused it.
