I am going to replace the front and rear pads on my 2001. 5 2WD. I replaced the fronts with Napa pads about 2 yrs ago and I have not been happy with the braking. I have also read on the threads about the rear pads comming apart lon before they are worn out.

I also have an older friend that wants front and rears on his 2002 4X4. We want pads that give good braking characteristics. I don't want $200. 00 per set super-duper-racer pads.

Any and all recommendations are welcomed. Thanks, Chris

Remember TDR Member "Brake Guru" Sam Peterson. Hawkhead Pads work best

They should still offer a TDR special price 360 357 4958

Thanks BOB... ... . I have driven some early 12v 4X4 trucks that were vastly underbraked. My 2001. 5 was much better but I think the Napa pads have lost some of their effeciency. Chris

Chris,

Sam Peterson has retired. Patrick is now running the place. Rapid Brake (Sam's former business) is still doing well. I don't think the service for TDR members is quite as good as when Sam was running it. Patrick is okay, but he doesn't seem to return phone calls.

I ordered a set of front pads for my 1995 truck and a set for my 2000 truck last August. They were the second set I've bought from Rapid Brake for each truck (100,000 miles on both trucks). I got exactly the same pads I had bought previously because I was so pleased with them the first time.

The Hawkhead Carbomet Plus pads stop well. They do not wear your rotor out. They do not produce as much brake dust as the stock pads. They last a long time (about 50,000 miles with 25% towing). The price is reasonable (nowhere near $200).

The pads for my 2000 truck were back-ordered and I waited quite a while for them, but they sat around my garage for a few months before I got around to installing them, so the wait for delivery wasn't critical.

The 2000 truck takes #D-821 pads.

The 1995 truck takes #459 pads.

These are for the front rotors only. I have yet to replace the rear shoes.

Try these Carbomet pads; you'll like them. I have been unable to find these pads anyplace other than Rapid Brake.

Thanks for the update Loren. Sam Peterson wore the title "brake guru" and he wore it proud

Sometime things change and we can only remember the way it was... ... ... .....

Sam is still the man Oo.

I hope Rapid Brake still does good work. Even though I do all my own work on my Ram, I plan to let them perform all the brake work on my Dodge Neon.
