Here is a reply from Cummins to the question I had about a medium service auto for our trucks. Thought you might find it interesting.

Summary: ram b/isb dodge autotrans isus

Solution:

Thanks for your email, and we're familiar with the TDR - we had the pleasure of hosting a few hundred members for the TDR rally here in Columbus a couple of months ago; some of us got to drive the new Ram 2003 trucks and they were great - incredibly tight and almost like a passenger car.

As for the autotranny, I'm sure none of your comments have escaped Daimler-Chrysler attention; and, if there have been warranty issues, guess who foots the bill and is aware. But you asked the question, so - yes, we use Allison commercial automatic transmissions in Motorhome applications, and they do an excellent job and have a transmission for (almost) every inut torque requirment diesels can muster. We haven't priced one, but imagine you could replace the Ram trans a time or two after warranty runs out, for the price of an aftermarket installation of the Allison.

Dodge is aware of the issues; we understand that they are working on it. We thank you for your interest in Cummins products. I have a question that I hope you can help me and others with. Let me

explain that I am a member of the Turbodiesel Register. This is an

organization that represents owners of Dodges with the 6BT motor. One thing

we have come to realize is that we have a medium service engine but we do

not have medium service transmission. Specifically the Auto offered is very

weak. Is there a list of auto trannys used in the medium service market

which might be used in this application? We realize that it would be

expensive, however people are spending large sums trying to keep the Dodge

auto alive. Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
