The heat blanket over my transmission and drive shaft is starting to hang down and wear against part of the drive shaft. Anyone know where a replacement can be bought? If they aren't available I'm thinking of trimming it off where it is hanging down.
Those are definitely the material I am looking for. But I was hoping there were some specifically made for our trucks, with holes already in place that match the threaded posts on the underside of the truck. I'm not too keen on drilling holes on the underside for fear of water getting in. On a 16 year old truck I think the only way I could clean the surface for an adhesive product would be to drop the transmission to get clear access. If there are no custom replacements, the same material in a non-adhesive form would work. I could remove the old one, lay it on top of the new material and punch holes in the correct spots then screw it in place. I've already replaced the cheap plastic fasteners with large fender washers and a nut, so it's just a matter of finding something that fits and won't fall apart if I have to trim it. The only area that has me concerned is the back end of the blanket, which is rubbing on the harmonic balancer. If trimming a new one is the only alternative, I might just trim the existing one above the harmonic balancer since it is already frayed.
My old grand Cherokee had this problem on the heat shield. I used a 2 inch hole saw and made some washes from some heavy aluminum trim I had. Reused existing studs and nuts. Did this repair two years ago.
