Dutch is looking at new headlights for our 1996 Dodge 5. 9 Ram truck.

Any feedback on the performance of the lights in the Angel Eye dual replacement headlights. Anyone have any experience with

them? Di

i can't speak for the ones for dodge applications but the ones for the euro cars i work on are chinese trash, seldom do they plug up without voodoo and something usually burns out in the internal wiring, i can't imagine they are much better as they pretty much come from the same place. i went with depo brand sport lights, a decent copy of factory 2 bulb sport units, it takes a little work to put them in the early trucks but i like the results

Dutch made a few calls after your post and that seems to be the general consensus. Guess we'll have to go with Plan B. Thanks for your reply. Di

Thanks Greg

Not being familiar with headlights, can you tell me what brand or where you found your sport lights?

One thing he is also thinking about is putting in a brite box from Geno's so I can use both high an low beams when night driving. Di

Di- I put sport lights on my 96 and was quite pleased. Not terribly difficult, and you can still buy the parts new.

The Bright Box is pretty expencive for what it does, do some on line searchs you can find ways of doing it w/o the bright box.

Di, do an ebay search for Dodge Ram Sport Headlights. Remember that a second gen is a second gen. <G> SOME CUTTING is required to match the later headlights to our '96. There is a set of directions way back in the forums, and be sure to protect the paint and plastic around the headlight opening. I also used the bright box when I installed mine. Low beam is the same, but High beam is much better!

99-01 DODGE RAM SPORT HEADLIGHTS HEADLAMPS PAIR SET NEW | eBay

Hope the link works, but you get the idea. Hope to see you guys @ MM this year.

Greg

Amazon has the DEPO lights for less (typical ebay stuff), which is the brand I used. I used a google "sport headlights for dodge ram" search. <G>

We ended up putting in the SilverStar Ultra replacement bulbs by Sylvania this afternoon. Figured that was worth a try 1st. Will test them out over the weekend. If they don't work to our satisfaction we will definitely try the sport headlights. Thank you for the replies. Happy New Year, Diana

I got this from Danial Stern site, I put a lot of trust in.

You need:

-a set (left and right) of the '99-'01 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport
headlamps. Get
the real ones from the dealer or ChryslerPartsDirect.Com
, not the
Taiwanese knockoffs from eBay or elsewhere on the internet;
the low price of the aftermarket units is attractive, of
course, but despite "OEM quality" and "DOT/SAE approved"
claims, they are junk (more info below). Factory part
numbers are as follows:

Headlamp, left: 55077 025AC
Headlamp, right: 55077 024AC
Park/turn lamp, left: 55077 033AC
Park/turn lamp, right: 55077 032AC

I put a set of aftermarket HID's on my 2001, the line up was something to be desired. Large gaps between the light and body. Lights looked good for about two months and then I noticed water buildup in the right light. Waiting for the left to go also. ASAP I will go back to the OEM headlights. Learned my lesson on aftermarket stuff. That's just my two cents worth. Thanks, Don Simpson

Headlights

Dutch,

FWIW, I really disliked the stock headlights after 12 years of driving behind them. They had yellowed over even after polishing them a few times.

I used the Sylvania restorer kit and put in the same lights you did.

I was not that impressed untill I re-aimed the new bulbs.

Now I feel better about driving at night, although the new bulbs are far from HID light.

YMMV

Thanks for the updates. Dutch did re-align the the new bulbs and so far we are quite impressed with them. Will see how long they last. Diana
