New Owner Question- smell

I had some extra keys made for my 2007 (they were plain keys) and went I got time to try them they worked fine in the door and the truck started fine, however it quit after approx 3 seconds. Put the original key in and truck started fine. Put the extra key in and the same thing, the truck started after 3 seconds. For my spare keys I want plain head non-remote that I can carry in my wallet.

2nd question -- does anyone make a kit for 3rd generation dodges to allow the tailgate to be locked that can also be keyed to the ignition locK? In other words 1 key fits all??

MLisle,

You need a "chipped" key. You can get them off the internet for about $20. 00 or so. A regular key can be cut but it will just unlock the doors.

You need both of your stock "chipped" keys to make the new replacement "chipped" key work. There is a sequence that you have to use to program the new "chipped" key. I don't have that info handy right now.

It's out in my truck and I'm at work.

Thanks.

I just ordered a pop&lock electric tail gate lock that will lock and unlock at the same time as the doors. It should be delivered tomorrow. contact me if you need info. I'll let you know how easy it installs and if it works as promised.
