A few weeks back my truck sort of rolled on top of a VW Jetta denting my rear bumper and bending my exhaust. I want to replace the bumper, but not sure I want to put an OEM one back in. I am really looking for something that has lights built into it, and will not cover my hitch. I have seen a few, but they all appear to cover the existing hitch. Does anybody have an aftermarket bumper that they really like, how much did it cost, and do you have any pics? Any suggestions?
Thanks Chris

I had a similar problem with my bumper recently and have a Reunel on order. It is costing me $10 more than the factory bumper cost estimate I got from insurance co. This bumper replaces the factory bumper and hitch, and is rated for 20,0000 lbs. Anyone need a factory reciever hitch?

I too have a Reunel on order. I have had them on my last two trucks and have liked them both. I ordered mine with the PIAA's in the rear with the hitch welded into the bumper (as opposed to the removable bracket) It should be here next week and I will post some pics.
Check them out on http://dodgeram.org/ki4cy/bumper/frontbumper.htm

I installed this one right after I bought the truck. It has the receiver built into it. It's made by Browns Welding 1-800-625-8712. I think the cost is only around $400 or so. I think you can also have them cut the holes for aux. back up lights. You would have to ask them. Wish I had them now. BTW, the bumper weighs 200lbs.

Most any welding shop can build you one the way you want it. I built my own, and installed a ramsey 8000# winch in it. I don't know how to post a picture but i can e-mail you a picture. I used an old piece of truck frame, which i thought was tough enough, until I tried to help out my uncle who was stuck in a L9000 ford, STUPID. I have to build another i plan on using some ar360 steel to keep from bending. I got the materials for around 200 bucks without the winch. I would not know what to do with out a winch on the rear to drag dead cars and trucks on the trailer

Are there any other rear bumpers similar to the Reunel? I like the lines of the Reunel, just curious if there are other options w/o going custom.

Someone care to explain Reunels claim of 20,000 lb capacity? My factory receiver hitch is rated at 10k and it's bolted to the frame in 6(?) places, spread out over a fairly large area. The Reunel bolts to the end of the frame rails only w/6(?) bolts & they claim a 20k capacity? Maybe for the bumper only...

I spoke to the Reunel people a while ago regarding their bumper. You have to remove the factory hitch to install their bumper. It mounts to the ends of the frame rails and also uses some of the holes that the factory hitch uses. Their ads don't show all the mounting details of the bumper. You have to order the welded in receiver to get the 20K capacity.

Bigyelloyiron,

I am in the process of designing a rear bumper for my truck. I would appreciate any pictures that you could send me of what you built. The more ideas, the better!!!

Thanks.

I can build you guys a serious rear bumper
with a hitch and D-rings, for way less
than Ruenel or ProZap. I have tested mine winching and truck pulling for several years.
It is made from 10" x 4" tubing and is many times stronger than the frame. I also build a front bumper with a receiver in it. email me at jwestpiw@msn.com and I'll send you pictures and/or drawnings if you want to build it yourself.
