I would imagine getting the ECM and related electronics compatible would be next to impossible. However, that being said, TDR members are amazing in their resourcefulness and ingenuity so we'll see what this thread reveals.

Good luck if you embark on this.

Stick, auto? You could prolly make A stick run but cel light would always be lite bc it missed the evic. Also need the newer t case selector knob or some kind of work around.

Are ya gonna swap the dpf too? ;)

yes swap the dpf, it already has auto. in it, just just don't know how you would wire it all in, an make it function right

A couple years back one member put a CR motor in his '96 or '97 and got everything to work fine, but it may be easier on a 12v rig since there's less electronics in the first place.

Possibly a simpler route would be to make the 6. 7 engine a VP motor, this has been done before (at least converting a 5. 9 common rail to operate with a VP44 pump). A guy named Monster Pump Mike does custom timing cases to put the VP on a CR motor and the crossover tubes for the injectors. Then theoretically you'd just have to install all the VP sensors and you should be good to go.

Why swap in a knOwn weak link? It will take just as much crap to run a vp as it will a cr. And the cr has much more potential with better manners than the vp. And when you have trouble how will you ever track it down. Is it timing is it wiring is it blah blah blah? Swap it in stock and run then play.

I can't think of their names at the moment, but there are several conversion companies out there that are putting the Cummins into Ford pickups. They might be able to help you.

I looked at that swap out of curiousity a couple of months ago, and as has been mentioned, I can't see doing it and keepin the mil off, the computer network is the problem. I don't remember the details, there is so much shared data, I'm sure if you transfered most of the CAN bus you could get it to work, but that's a big can of worms. I think the aftermarket computer swap would be better. There's my 2 cents.

Do the swap, delete the dpf and associated hardware, use the smarty to take care of the delete issues, stick with manual trans to save that nag of worms
