Replacing a carrier bearing

trying replace the center carrier bearing on the drive shaft . I have the factory service manual but can’t find anything about actually replacing bearing . Shouldn’t the rubber lip of the bearing fit inside the steal dust shield ?

I just did mine yesterday, fit like yours in your pic. I believe the metal disk is a slinger so its needs to have clearance
