It is about time to to go though the brakes on my truck. The rears have never been touched and the fronts had an over all a couple years ago from a seized caliper. The stock four wheel disks have been great, great stopping power and generally reliable but if I am putting on new rotors and pads I would rather put the money into something better if possible.

Any suggestions??

Experience with :

Stillen?

EGR?

Anything else out there??

Anyone make blue printed calipers, the stocks do have a tendency to bind.

Thanks,

Ted

In my search for drilled and slotted rotors for our service trucks, 3500 2WD 11000 GVW (straight front axle), I came across a set from Car Quest. They are listed under Severe Duty and there is a left and right application. I got an excellent dealer prices and have no idea what they retail but a phone call should get you a price. We have been using the Car Quest Gold Series pads, they work OK but I'm trying to get the EGR pads approve from management. To what I have heard from my customers the EGR Brake system is one of the best out there, but I can't see my self pay that much for rotors. I know our service trucks will definitely put the Car Quest rotors to their test.

I installed the EGR system last summer and am please with its performance. The brakes are much better than the OEM, even when they were new. I have 5-7K on the system now and it is nice to be able to stop quickly if needed. I replaced the entire system and the only problem I had was getting the correct front brake lines. I had several sets by the time I finished.

Thanks guys for the input. I pulled off all the wheels and calipers to check out the condition of things and try to determine the source of my squealing. I have 60k miles on the truck and could make it to 160k on the amount of brake material left on the pads. So the intermitent squeal had me confused until I pulled the pads off the rear to find the inner pad on the drivers side had delaminated(right word?) and the braking material was no longer attached to the metal backing. It was just floating around in there as it wished. So I guess i am just in for a new set of rear pads to replace the otherwise perfectly good set that came with the truck.
So no upgrading yet. I think the exhaust brake is paying for itself.

Thanks
Ted
