I now have a bit of a dent in my front bumper due to a run-in with the concrete base of a light pole in the parking lot at work. The bumper is bent back to the A/C condenser. The condenser looks like it will be ok, with some bent cooling fins though. :(

I suppose this now gives me some incentive to BOMB the truck. ;) I saw a post about the Reunel, but would like to know what the rest of the members here have. Pictures and links would be helpful.

Also how hard will this be to change out myself?

Michael

BTW, are these the people that designed the Dodge bumper?

I bought a custom bumper from John West. It's built from 3/16" steel. It's his own design, and I believe he said he built it before Denver Off Road cme out with their design. They look similer.

TDR issue 33, p. 9 has the Denver Off Road ad. John's bumper doesn't have the grill guard. I don't have pictures of mine but if you're interested John can be reached at -- email address removed --.

REmoving and installing the front bumper is very easy. I have made and installed winch bumpers for my last three trucks, and there is nothing tricky about taking one off and putting another on. As you install one, you do need to adjust the height of each side to match-----the holes are key-holed so that it can be adjusted.

I would like to post a picture of mine, but never seem to master that stepl

85CJ, how do you like your bumper you purchased from John West. I plan on ordering one very soon. From the pictures and info he has sent me they seem to be what I am looking for.

I'm really happy with the bumper John built for my truck. If I wasn't I wouldn't have recomended his work.

It did get a few scratchs during shipping, but it WAS handled by two different shipping companies since it was coming to AK. I patched the scratchs with Krylon and it looks good.

I think the lines of the bumper match the truck lines better and the front approach angle is improved.

I have yet to pull with this bumper but John said he has pulled with it and it stood up to the work so I'm happy.

Merryman

Merryman, Where did you get that bumber done at? Also do you know of a guy in Brookings/Harbor that custom builds Aluminum bumpers? I talked to a guy from Brookings and he told me a name and I cant remeber now??? Its like SeaPeople or something in Brookings. This is the same guy that built the Jerry's River jet boats I guess. You know of anyone?

Thanks,

Mike

I built the bumper myself. The only help I had was to have two 48" pieces of 3/16 flat stock bent into a channel; from there it all happened in my shop. I like playing with metal-----takes me far away from the courtrooms there in Medford.

I also built my rear bumper, the fiver tail gate, a heat deflecter for the cone type air filter, and the offset mud flap mounts. How long have you been in Southern Oregon?

Sorry, but I do not know anyone doing this kind of work. I only moved over from Medford six years ago, and just sort of stay hunkered down here doing my own thing and have not become widely acquainted.

I have a TJM on my truck. Their site is http://www.tjmproducts.au/bull_bars.html

They only make the T-1 for the dodges and they are built good. Air bag compatible and light, even with the winch. I only have a 8000# Warn but it has pulled me out twice and one with a TT in tow. It does not sit too much farther out than with the OEM bumpers. It is designed very well and looks great. The bumper part of it is a two piece design so it is tough. You can e-mail them and they can send you a picture with it on a dodge. I am not yet computer wise so I have no ideal how to post yet, but I am working on it.

Finally got a good look at it in the daylight. It looks like the A/C condenser has some damage. Looks like I'll have to replace that also.

Nice bumper merryman. I'm glad to see I am not the only one using one of the "oldie" but goodie warn winches. Mine is so oold it was made in WA.

Xgunfighter

Thanks!

My old winch was new in 1984, but it has never faltered. It has been worked many times too. A couple Elk seasons ago, partner and I drove from camp to hunt an area several miles away and during the day we had a real strom come through. Comming back to camp after dark that night we had to winch 9 trees out of the way to get there--figured the winch paid for itself that one time.

The other two guys in camp had gone the other way, and on their return encountered seven trees. They had no winch, but did have a chain saw. Still after cutting them up enough to move them they had the work of wrestling the pieces out of the way.
