Replacing Lift Pump. Need Advice.

I think the lift pump has finally given in. I like the idea of replacing it with something other than OEM, but I am afraid to because I am not sure how it will hold up to everyday use. Maybe when it has been tested more. What happens if I go down to the dealer and buy a new one? Do they hold up better now than the one I have on there now? Are they available from Cummins for less then from DC? I need to make a decision quick. The truck is parked in the garage until I fix.

Didn't someone post something about seeing the stock pump in Summit's catalog? I think that was in HVAC's post about the Holley.

Jeff, I you want a OEM replacement Lift Pump, go to a Cummins Dealer, The lift pump from them is about a $120. 00. From Dodge its around $390. 00.

The Carter from Summitt would work for me. I have the JRE 1/2" fuel line kit so my lift pump is drilled and tapped for 3/8 pipe. All I would need to do is get a new fitting for the output side of the pump and I'm in business. Thanks for all the help.
 
Animal, I just found the pump in the Jeg's catalog for the same price. The one you told me about is 14-16 psi and requires a regulator. The one that is smaller is 6-8 psi and does not require a regulator. Will the larger one work without providing too much pressure and what about the regulator?
 
I hope you can get a Carter that will perform better then the stocker. Let us know how the Carter performs. The Holley 12-815 costs $139 for comparison.
 
Hey Nowel, what do you know about this pressure thing I mentioned above. The Carter I am looking at says it requires a pressure regulator but the others from the same series do not require a regulator. I am worried about the pressure being to high.
 
Jeff,
You will not need a regulator, that is only needed for carburator use.

The High pressure pump is the one I recommend.

Thanks for the input guys. I ordered the high pressure Carter. Should have it first thing in the morning. I will post some results when I get it in.
