01-2500 SLT 4x4 6 speed-stock---Can I replace my lift pump(8psi at idle, 5. 5 at 2000rpm) without removing the starter (according to manual) ? Do I need any special tool to release the "quick disconect" fuel inlet line? (first post--not to sure how to do this--thanks)

I have never removed the starter for a lift pump replacement. It can be done from the top. no special tools required for the line, just squeeze the plastic locks in with your fingers and the line will pull off. 2 banjos on the fuel lines, 3 screws on the lift pump and the 1 bolt on the bracket for the line. sometimes when you are removing the 3 nuts on the lift pump the studs will turn on the pump itself, you can grind down an 11mm wrench to fit in there between the pump and bracket, or just keep turning and the stud will come out of the pump and you can get at the stud/nut easier once the pump is off.

I would also suggest removing the bolts holding the filter canister down and just pulling it out if the way a little. Luckily, I have fairly small hands and am physically able to lay down ON the engine compt. so I was able to reach down and get to the LP, but not wothout some nasty scratches and lots of cussing. When I installed my AirDog I discovered that I could move the filter canister out of the way without a hassle and that gave me LOTS more room and it is easily replaced.

(I left the factory canister inline with the airdog for a little extra filtration. )
