I have a 2006 Quad Cab with factory radio and satellite. I'm replacing it with a Kenwood or Pioneer satellite ready radio. I was told that I would need a new satellite receiver and antenna and that the old ones will not work. On this model the antenna is on the back of the roof and connects to the satellite receiver located in rear of the passenger compartment which is then connected to the radio. If I follow the advice given by the audio store where I am planning on purchasing the radio, I will have a new satellite receiver and antenna in addition to the now unconnected and inoperable OEM units. Is there any reason that I can't use the OEM receiver and antenna?

The satellite equipment is receiver specific (radio head unit) and will not talk to "other brands" let alone even plug in. Your OEM stuff has value to people who like the OEM look and the (somewhat rare) OEM satellite equipment goes for stupid money on ebay.

The newer satellite equipment gets more channels than the older equipment. So you are upgrading your service via more channels assuming you are getting the "SiriusXM" radio vs. just the "Sirius" or "XM" radio.

I recommend you remove the OEM stuff and recover some of your upgrade cost by selling it.
