I just purchased my truck and the shutoff sol. was'nt working. I took the sol. and brackets off the inj. pump and installed a shutoff cable purchased from JD for a 4430 ag. tractor. I mounted the knob end to the rt. of my park brake release lever. I made the bracket that holds the cable housing to the inj. pump and the one that goes on the fuel shutoff arm coming out of the pump. The JD cable has a nice round orange knob that has a fuel pump symbol with a circle and a slash line through it. This repair cost me $60 compared to $200-260. If anyone is interested I could put this in a kit and send it out. And also the plastic ball sockets on my throttle rod were wear out and I was able to buy new ones from JD for $6. 50 ea. 1-rht and 1-lht in metric.

KSyme, seeing this is your second post, welcome. What year is your truck? You may want to show a simple signature when you start a new post so we can all relate.

There is a recent recall to replace the throttle rod ends. I forget now what years that covered but I had my 97' done.

The cable replacement sounds good. Other members have spoken of or have done just that. $200-260 for a selenoid would be cheap even from a discounted source. That sounds like the "old style". The selenoid has been redesigned and the dealer will charge $400 over the counter with no discount.

The redesign does not look like much, mostly larger in diameter.

I forgot to add that it is alot easier to change the fuel filter and set the idling on the engine when the sol. is removed. 94 Ram 2500; 2 wd. ; 5 spd. ; 194,000 mi. currently; mostly stock.

When I do this a few more times I will get this right. I took mine in for the recalls that weren't done, they replaced the throttle cable, and said on 94's the linkage was not part of the recall.

Go figure on the recall. I had to cant my brake master away from the engine to accommidate the slightly larger selenoid. Any room gained on that side is a plus.

I found a place that has the solenoid for around $189. 00. It is the same on that is used on the c series cummins engine. I bought 1 and it works fine. Also recieved it 3 days after i ordered it. Dont know if i can post the web site here so anyone can pm me for it.

Thanks for the info, There should be somebody out there making them for a resonable price. For right now I will stay with the cable. Just about every other diesel I operate has a shut off cable. That's what happens when your a farmer.

I have a cable on mine and it works great. But I also built a new plate to hold the throttle cable as well. You might have to make some kind of bracket to do it.

throttle / recall

Ksyme;

when i took my 95 in for the throttle ends recall they replaced the throttle ends also along with the a new cable. i had replaced the cable my self. there was a recall that dealt with the linkage also. 94 should have included. don't have the # at present. E-mail me if you want further info. when i left, i took my cable and rod ends with me, thy did'nt look all that bad, just as back up.

They should put the cable shutoff on them when new - much simpler. Our tractors have shutoff cables and my old Mercedes did too. Never a problem.

I took the two bolts out that of the bracket that the adjustment screw that the lever comes to contact with when the fuel lever is in the off position. I took a 3/4" long piece off 7/16" shaft and chucked it in my turning lathe and bored a hole in it a size bigger then the cable core. Then bored into with bit same size as cable housing, didn't bore all the way through, left mybe 1/8" for housing stop. Took out of the lathe, drilled and tapped 6/32" machine screw hole perpindicular to lengthwise hole for set screw to hold cable housing. Took this sleeve and set it on top of set screw bracket removed from pump and tack welded them together. If I had to do it over I would take a piece of 1/2" W. X 1/8" T. X 3/4" flat metal and weld the sleeve to, and drill two holes in it to bolt to pump w/ stop screw bracket. -------------------------------- 94 Ram 2500, 2 wd. ; 5 spd. ; 3:53 RE; 194,000 mi. mostly stock

The throttle recall on 94's include the replacement of 3 ball studs also along with the 2 sockets. Sounds like they only did the easy half of the recall. Check for any wear on the ball studs,the original sockets can wear into the balls if you had the wire type retainers. The ball stud at the throttle cable is also different than the original and should be changed. You should not have any problem getting the complete recall performed. . just remind the dealer that did half the job of the life time liability of all recalls. Chrysler has the record of who and when the recall was performed by. Good luck

I love my PTO cable shutdown setup... .

My only regret is using the PTO cable... . it's WAY too stiff and heavy duty for the task... . but it works mint.
