Retractable Bed Covers

Just wondering if any of you guys have either re trak or pace american covers for your trucks and if you like or dislike them... . Or if you have heard of other brands

I looked around way back in '02, and purchased the Roll-N-Lock Brand. I was not disappointed. I got it from Dave in Atlanta at We Sell Roll N Lock for less. The dealer for them locally wanted to sell me a fiberglass bed cover! I installed it myself, and folks who saw it liked it so well that I put one on my brother-in-law's '07 Dakota when he got it, a friend's '03 Ram dually and my '06 SRW 3500 Mega Cab. They work good from -15 to 122 degrees. My better half loves the security and keeping her stuff dry...

My brother-in-law has the Pace American on his '04. It has been very sturdy and has stood up to quite a bit of abuse. But, it has leaked since day one.

I've had one for the past six years and am generally pleased. There are tradeoffs and drawbacks, as with anything else in this world. It does tend to have a very slight leak near the latch. If you venture up into snow and ice country, it can be difficult to retract and more importantly, impossible to open if water gets into the lock and freezes. On the other hand, it is very sturdy and protected the contents of my truck bed pretty well both from theft and from the elements. The lexan slats can crack; I've had a slight crack in one of them but not all the way through, so cosmetic impact only. Very simple to remove and reinstall once you have it installed the first time.

I have been using a Pace Edwards "Jackrabbit" for over 3 years. It has worked very well for me. The only downfall I can see is the amount of room takes up in the front of the bed, but that is just a product of it being a "retractable".

We've had a Pace on our 1996 for 12 years. We don't really feel there is a downside for us in having one. We did have to replace the roll top portion about about 4 years ago but keep in mind that we have been fulltime RV'ing for 12 years and the truck is in constant use and is always outside. Diana

That's a long time! Sounds like it's been a good one!

I have had a Pace Edwards on my trucks since 03 and really like them. Losing a portion of the bed is their only drawback IMO.

I have the BAK Aluminum retractable cover and it looks very similar to the Jackrabbit full metal cover. The BAK was $799 and i love it. I had it for 2 years and open and close it four times per day. The only issue i had is the plastic stoppers for the latch started to crack and i replaced them with aluminum stoppers. It only leaked at the tailgate a tiny bit, but my home made rubber seal fixed that.

I would stay away from the Peragon brand. I bought one and regret it. If you have anything in the truck bed and it slides toward the front of the truck bed, you will not be able to open the truck cover. It has to drop down into the truck bed to open. I would never buy one again.

I got the BAK rollup cover shortly after getting my truck and if I was to get another one it wouldnt be from Bak.

Had to replace the drivers side piece about three months after getting the cover.

Now the rear piece that seals the cover at the tailgate is starting to come off.

If I had to get another one, Id go with the Pace.
