I have a simple question: I want to check for DTC's and have the section from the Turbo Diesel Buyer's Guide that covers the 6.7 Liter motor. On page 375 there is a diagram for the switch positions which is used in the explanation of how to retrieve any codes. My question is why does my ignition switch have totally different positions? I guessed at the positions to use on my switch for the procedure, but no codes popped up or any kind of message that I was accessing codes.

My 2017 3500 DRW truck switch positions in a clockwise manner are: Off - Acc - Run - Start. What is the procedure with this switch to retrieve codes? I also checked the directions in the RAM Diagnostic Trouble Codes document on the LH side of the TDR web page, but it has the same diagram for the switch as in the Turbo Diesel Buyer's Guide.

In 3rd gen models that was an available method to retrieve codes. No so on 4th gen trucks. You need to look at publication dates and model years listed in you reference material.

The key trick worked on the proprietary comm systems but when they went to CAN bus in 06 that feature was deprecated. You need a code reader to get codes, the blue tooth ones that install on a smart phone are cheap and easy to use.

The key trick worked up to early ‘07 5.9’s.

Nope, deprecated start of 06 and by mid 06 with full CAN bus it was useless. CAN bus is too broad and the logic too complex to display in odo window. Pl;us Dodge did not want the codes ot be easily found or displayed, it was haunting them.

My brother has an ‘07 5.9 and a guy I work with has an ‘07 5.9, the key trick works in both trucks.

Wow, I thought I had a simple question. I really appreciate each one of you that responded! It is clear to me that I need to study my expanded RAM manual, and also look into a code reader. I will update this with my findings.

The problem here is not the use Alpha OBD but something easy, not everybody is a genesis in downloading adding to there phone. Like the phone I have my employer doesn't allow to load programs in to there work phone period.
