I was crawing all over my friends '01 the other day and it appears that the new foglight housings (factory option) are much shallower than the old ones as they cleared his auto trans cooler lines by a mile. Of course I didn't have my truck there to compare. Has anybody verified this? Will the new lights fit the old facia?

That's a negative. I checked with my dealer to see if I could get them on my '98. 5. They told me that the problem was the bumper is set too close to the frame by about 1. 5" on the pre-'99 24 valves and with the 1st Gen diesels, the piping behind the bumper is all different and gets in the way. They even went so far as to call DC to confirm this. I called DC customer service myself to put a bug in their ear to see if they might consider coming up with an adapter kit for the '98. 5s, which would be a whole lot cheaper than a new bumper assembly. They put it on their list, but I haven't heard a thing since. That was last fall. The only way I know is to go with after market fog lights. I know that PIAA makes a mounting kit that will allow you to mount certain model PIAA fog lights in the factory holes. I don't know if that will work on 1st Gen engines or not. If anybody knows anything different about the pre-'99s and factory fog lights, I sure would appreciate it.

I have a 1998. 5 24v auto, And I installed the Factory Fog Lights with the Factory Switch by the AirBag switch, They all fit with no Problem With clearance between the Bumper or whatever. Most of the Factory wiring was already in place, I had to buy the two relays for the dist panel,And some little pig tails for the Foglights Along with the "FogLight Kit". But I had No Problem with the transmission Cooler being in the way. I would say I have almost 2" of clearance Between the transmission Cooler and the Drivers side Fog Light. #ad

I would say Yes. I installed the 98 style on my 98. 5 24v auto, no problem-o.

Your welcome Tim. I see you have a SLT, It probably has most of the wiring already there,So you wont have to use the Wiring Harness that comes with the kit. Look under your trucks radiator on the Rad support cross member, Drivers side just in front of the steering box, there should be a plug there pinned to the frame, If its there, All you need is the Pig tail Harness from that plug to the foglights,Plus the two relays that go inthe Distribution Box, And the Foglight switch with the facia for the dash. The harness in the dash on mine was taped up on the power wire for the passenger Airbag Key switch. And one more thing, The Fog Lights themselves!. The Fog Lights come with new bumper inserts too. (I had Mine painted because my truck is a sport) That sould get you going.

P. S. You have to remove the bumper to install the New Bumper Inserts and Fog Lights. But its not hard. And the Bumper is Light. . TOO Light in Fact!

Dieselram,
What was the difference in the facia? My truck (used) had the Mopar projector fog lights installed (the ones that don't fit). I installed and wired the factory switch and bolted the light brackets to the bumper brackets (the were taped). How much were the lights? the facias?
Thanks for the info!

The Fog Light Kit comes with the new Bumper Inserts so the fog lights will fit. I think I paid $120. 00 for the kit. The wiring kit for the Install was $39. 00, But i could be way off on that price... .....
Doug.

Ive even had the pleasure of installing fog lights on a 97. Yes,the grille inserts have to be changed but there is no clearance problem with any cooling lines.
