Hey guys,

Is there a way to loose the limiter? Is it a bad thing if I do bypass it? Should I shut the hell up, and learn to live with it? Opinions, options, thoughts, and suggestions are all welcome.

The "popping" noise it makes , just irritate's me, and in some situations I can't seem to avoid it. Thanks :D

the cummins engine makes a popping noise at top idle? my 6. 5TD some times pops when it is being rev'd up, but when it hits top idle, it stops popping and really quiets down. . once the top idle speed is stable, it shouldn't pop i think:confused:

Yes, you are confused, you don't have a Cummins, therefore you dont know what I'm talking about.

Rob. . Fill me in on the popping problem. I'm nearly deaf so maybe I don't hear this popping. If you're talkng about a popping noise when you're redlining it, I haven't noticed it on my truck. If it happens when you let off on it real quickly from the redline, it's probably the turbo barking at ya. I get that once in a while.

PS - Be nice to our diesel friends from the far side, Rob :)

Doc, yes it is at red-line

2nd gear rev's out really quick, and then the "poping" begins, its faster than my foot can let-off the pedal, 3rd does it occasionally, but I can somewhat control 3rd gear rpm's, 2nd is another story. Of course this only happens, in the heat of the moment, like drag-racin' or sled-pullin' (which I pulled my first sled Saturday night), Like I said, it's more of an annoyance than anything.

I am constantly up against my limter, there is no popping on my truck, just a gradual, and gente defuel starting at 3200,and stopping at 3550 or so. I have run mine at the pin (3500)for 2-5+minutes straight,no popping at all. I rev my loyally too. WWhere is your popping sound coming from, you might have a valve out of adjustment,to tight maybe.

Same thing ^^^^^^^^ here Rob, no popping at all.

Huh, well I dont understand then, I hit 3200 and the engine "pops" repeatedly, WTH? The valves are properly adjusted also.

Rob, is your fuel system in good shape? Lift pump workig at full tilt? Just wondering if your experiencing a high rpm miss. It seems to me you may have a comp on your truck which would require larger fuel supply lines to the injection pump or at least the drilled banjo bolts. Have you tested your fuel system?

Nowell,

Yes, I have a new lift-pump and pusher pump, and see 22psi@idle, and no less than 10psi@WOT. I have drilled out banjos, but will be installing weber fittings and 3/8 fuel line soon. Click my profile for all the mods to date. Thanks for any help.

PS, hows the Dana 80 workin' out?

Find the miss.

Rob,

You might try physically removing the TST connections and the EZ, one at a time. I suspect that the popping/miss will disappear. Several folks have had this problem and it was in the electronic enhancements. At a sled pull Saturday night a Ram started the same thing (hot TST box) and scattered the factory receiver down the track.

Nowell,

I would very much like to find a way to increase our rpm with the VP44. Any ideas or recommendation on who to talk to??

Larry

VP44 Rev Limit

Larry, that's way over my head. I would say that from what I have absorbed from others, the rev limit is possibly the most difficult aspect of that ECM/programing to defeat. I wish we could modify the CKPS or the CamPS signal, but that would surely screw up the timing and lord knows what else. We may be stuck with what we have:(

BTW, you may be better off without that lathe from Stanford. That's the one that was being auctioned off by the folks out at the accelerator. My physicist friend who happens to work out there says it was likely radio active

Nowell,

Wasn't what I wanted to hear about the rpm limit but I suppose some one would have already bypassed if it were easy.

Thanks for remembering the lathe, central Missouri is said to have received the most fallout radiation from the atom bomb tests in the early '50's and the year I was born is said to be most vulnerable for cancer, just lost a classmate to cancer. Maybe it's good the lathe stayed on the West Coast??

I can't believe that I didn't get to see you at Muncie... ..... your twin turbo setup is an itch that I need to scratch... . :D :D. The B1 is doing all that you have stated, I just try to imagine the B1 as the small turbo in a compound setup :-laf :-laf Oo. Oo.
