Just in case anyone is still annoyed by this honking in reverse with the door open:

On the my 2004 the seat belt fastening fix does not work.

On my 2004 you can easily disable this annoying feature by opening the drivers door before you are ready to back up and transmission in Park.

1. Open the drivers door.

2 Take a small screwdriver, piece of wood or your finger etc and push the latch on the door shut, ( push towards the outside of the door), it will click in the shut position and the door AJAR lamp on the dash will go out.

3. Once the lamp goes out the CPU will not beep the horn as it thinks the door is closed with the latch engaged with the striker.

4. When you are finished with the back up driving task, go to PARK and just pull on the inside door handle and the latch will go to the door open position.

5. Close the door and drive off.

6. If you want to disable this feature permanently, remove the inside door

plastic, only about 5 screws and the handle, on the connector C304 that carries the wiring to the latch mechanism, pull out the Violet wire going to C304's Pin #1, this will open the path to ground for the Door Ajar signal

and hence the CPU will see the door always in the closed position.

interesting... may have to try this on my 06... Only thing I've found that works is to drive it two footed and keep the brake lights lit up.

Seat belt fastening fix works on the '06. I was in fron of a brick building when I found out about that "horn in reverse". Man that scared the hell out of me. I twisted those wires together about 10 minutes later.

It always happens to me when somebody is either walking in front of my truck or walking by. #@$%! Wish I would have ignored the recall notice

yeah, for me the annoying thing isn't even backing up for the trailer, it's the little roll you get after you put it in park, and if you open the door to fast, it honks..... VERY ANNOYING! I maybe have to make this fix. I don't think the seatbelt thing works on 05's either, because I'm pretty sure mine still beeps if my belt is on. Thought someone said if the parking brake is on, it won't honk, but that doesn't work either. Only the 2 footed thing.

Thats a great idea on the quick fix.

The permanent fix would not allow for dome lamp function when getting in + if you set the alarm and that door is opened it wouldn't go off.

I read somewhere where a fella mentioned wiring in a relay in front of the horns that is always on and tripped open with the reverse lamp ckt might be a way to go too.

I didn't think about the light and alarm. Not sure what I'm gonna do now. Wonder if there is a way with a smarty to disable it? Guess I'll hang out and see if something comes up.

I doubt the programmers can turn it off, as it was a safety recall, and they would get in trouble defeating it. I'm sure they have access to the programming needed though.

I have gotten the recall notice 6 times for my 04. The notice immediately finds its way to the shredder. :D

I wonder if a scan tool would allow a person to go in and make a change? I wish I would have never answered the recall notice, but I didn't know at the time how aggravating this so-called fix would be. #ad

Yep, I did the same on my '03 and so far they have given up on sending me any more notices.

Also I have a jumper wire on the seat belt sensor under the driver seat to prevent the irritating seat belt chime and "little red man" light on the instrument panel. I don't need idiot reminders!

If I member right,I was thinking of selling my truck then and I didn't want to be held liable if something happened to the new owner. In AK you can't knowingly sell a vehicle that is deemed unsafe or has defects and not let the new owners know. I wanted to cover my butt with the recall issue.

This is off base a bit,but Dodge sends us recall notices to protect themselves because something has been deemed unsafe. WE as consumers must get these recall notices taken care of to protect ourselves. Yet Dodge has numerous TSBs about the Death Wobble that affects almost the entire pickup line. Yet, Dodge refuses to pay for parts and labor unless you still have a manufactures warranty. Dodge recalled our trucks because a couple people couldn't figure out how to put their truck in park,so now we have to listen to the damn horn if we open the door too soon.

Now there are so many trucks with bad front ends at 20K miles on up,that Dodge is having a hard time keeping the "new" upgraded parts in stock. I wonder if its going to take a death or two for Fiat to do the right thing. Egad! I meant Dodge to do the right thing.

If I recall correctly, I can elect to not have the fix and the dealer can put it in the system that way and the recall notices will stop.

I too did it, somewhat by mistake. I was told by the dealer that if I didn't do it, I could never get software updates. But, as it turns out that is a different update area than the ECM flashes that effective drivability, shifting, etc.

I had a problem with my alarm going off sometimes. I cut the wire from the horn button and from the horns. I rewired them with a relay and bypassed the computer. Now when I have a false alarm, it just flashes the lights. :-laf
