reverse jammed

Have 03 5. 9eng w/6 spd. Truck has 285,000mi w/original clutch. I self installed the short shifter kit - truck ran flawlessly until few months ago. After complete warmup and driving 40-50mi, I have almost impossible time getting into reverse! So I removed short shift, put stock shift back in but --same problem. All other gears are fine. Run Pennzoil sync trans fluid change every 25000mi. Also no prob with clutch. Any ideas???

Get some new hydraulics. Also when you first push in your clutch try putting it into 3rd gear for a brief moment then bring it back into neutral then release the clutch a bit then push clutch in again and put it into reverse. It should go right in without a fight.

The southbend hydraulics cured this problem on my 03 however with that mileage the pilot bearing could be hanging the input shaft up some.

My pilot bearing was shot at 30k miles. New SB clutch and flywheel and the shifter just slips into any gear, smooth as butter.
