Check the fuse, if good bypass the switch on the trans. when in reverse. If lights come on its the switch if not its elsewhere.

Mike

EDIT- Isn't that still under warrenty????

The backup lights are just about as bright...

as some of DC's engineers. About 7 or 8 watts, I'd say.

Back-up light bombing 101 - Do yourself a favor and buy a set of tractor lights or fog lights and mount'em under your bumper.

Ok, so maybe I'm just a little cynical, but is there anything that DC made that we can't improve upon?

If the fuse keeps blowing, check your trailer connector.

Mine looked like a science experiment on the inside, all green and slimey. Made just enough less resistance to keep popping fuses.

backup lights

the first thought that came to my mind was, "you didn't have any backup lights when they were working". now is the time for a BOMB!

Adding extra back-up light ?

When adding extra back-up lights, do you just hook into the existing wiring ...

OR

Do you need to somehow use a relay, new wires from the battery, extra fuses, ... ???

I was going to run a wre from the battery and use the reverse light wire from the trailer conecter to activate a relay:D

backup lights

htrdhlr, there is a backup wire in the trailer wire harness. also a heavy 12v+ wire, not used otherwise. you can use the backup wire in the harness to "trigger" a relay powered by the 12v+ wire.

BR, not sure how the trailer harness is made up on the 95. you still should use a relay and a good 12v+ source for bigger backup lights.

EDIT: the violet/black wire in the trailer wire harness is the backup wire (same as at the backup lights).

EDIT # 2: i think the 12v+ is the red/orange wire. if someone else doesn't correct me, i can check my truck in the AM to be sure.

I had a problem like that, there are several things that could cause this. The dealer repaired it with a switch on the transmission.

The symptom was that it appeared that the gear shift slector was loose and that it was not in gear (reverse) upon wiggling the selector it would light up the back up lights. Under warranty no problem,Good luck..... Nick

Just run new wires all the way back to the new lights and hook power to them also put in an inline fuse and throw a new toggle, rocker etc. . switch on the dash somewhere. You will thank me later as this will enable you to only use em when you need emm, like you won't need them in a bright parking lot but will on dark country road, also works great for tailgaters. I bought mine at Autozone for 20 dollars they are 60 watt slimeline Pilots about 5-6 inches wide and about 1 inch high I got these so they wouldn't be so big and goudy they work excellent when properly adjusted they thorw light about 6 yards at least behind the truck and about 20 yards wide. I used self tapping screws and evenly centered them on the hitch.

Yeah, Me too. Cept' mine was on a 96. I didn't have any back up lights. Darn, found out I did just couldn't tell. Tinted windows and those little lights was no good. Some wire, 2 more lights, a relay, a switch and now I see.

Life is good.

. . Preston. .

The truth is even when the back up lights work you don't have any light. That is why a lot of have put some type of auxillary light as a back up light. I would first check your fuses it is real easy to short the circuit at the trailer connector.

I also suggest an override switch so that you can turn on the lights when the engine isn't running. The lights are real handy when loading a trailer or setting up a camp site in the dark.

Fuse!

It was the fuse. I replaced it and it has not blown today. I will check the trailer connecter when it FINALY GETS WARM!! It's snowing here I am sick of this crap!
