Since my little baby's a '98 model, our exterior black plastic has gotten a little dull and I would like to make it fresh. I've used producst like Stoners Trim Shine, which works well but the results are temporary.

Has anyone found something that will bring it back long-term? I'd like to avoid paint because it will eventually flake off...

I have used a heat gun on my 94 to bring it back
It works pretty good, especially for the age. there are videos on

I tried this technique on my upper bumper plastic, and it looked pretty good for a few months. Now it's back to that peculiar greenish bluish color, only now it's really splotchy.

I'm thinking of pulling this plastic off and painting flat black.

I use the Forever Black which is a dye and keep everything looking good with the 303 Aerospace Protectant. Both products do a very good job. Living in the deep South discolored trim is a common problem. Good luck! Ed B

Kiwi black shoe polish. The liquid one with the sponge at the end. It stains the faded plastic and last alot Longer that all the other products. 10x better than back to black from meguires. Stop wasting ure money and grab some shoe polish I did!

I haven't used it in a long time, but IIRC, 303 Aerospace Protectant, is a HIGHLY regraded product. You can google for more info or check out these links...

I have no relation to these businesses or 303 Protectant

I second the recommendation for 303.

Try it on your engine compartment too, just spray it on and leave it. When you want to clean the engine, just spray it off and dirt comes off real easy and the plastic parts retain a new look.

I was introduced to this stuff by whitewater raft manufacturers. This is the only dressing for UV and maintenance they recommend. The boats are made of various kinds of plastic.

I just started using Lucas Oil Tire and Trim. The plastic has to be cooled off and I put on a heavy coat using a small sponge. I finally figured out a light coat on the tires dries quickly and doesn't look good. But if I really soak the tires to where it is running off, they have the "shiny wet look" for several days. I then began using this technique on the tires and exterior trim (with the small sponge). Looks good and beads water like wax. Lasts quite a while depending on the conditions. My truck is only a 2006, so it is barely faded, but I assume it would work pretty well on the really faded stuff. Good luck!
