"... . my 1990 non intercooled non air condition overheats when pulling my 20 foot gooseneck horse trailer. I changed thermostat out with a new one from cummins but still overheats. HELP I dont want to have to start using my powerstroke... "

Moved here for better/proper exposure... . :D

pb... .

Usually, when a thermostat goes bad the vehicle will overheat all the time, not just when under a load. it sound to me as if the radiator is restricted, it flows well enough at idle and normal driving, but under a load it's not enough. usually in a situation like this you can turn the heater all the way up and use the heater core as a secondary radiator just to get home (gets kinda warm in the cab though  )

The early non-IC's had problems both with over heating and gauages that didn't read correctly.

First verify it is actually getting too hot with a mechanical gauage.

If it is warmer than you like, a retrofit with a later year IC radiator should cure the problem. A good cleaning and rodding of the current radiator may also help the problem.

overheated

thanks for the replys i checked the temp with a heat sensor, the gages are the same. what year radiaters will work.

91. 5 to 93 inter-cooled models. Dodge used to have a conversion kit for this. Might check and see if it still available. Good luck.

Is the fan clutch engaging? These fans pull alot of air, so if you're not sure it probably isn't (you would hear it and know for sure). The reason I ask is because I had the same problem with my 1990 which turned out to be several clogged rows in my radiator right in line with the little spring that's supposed to get hot, expand, and engage the fan.
