Thanks, TDR Staff

diesel .70/gal more than gas!!!!

New TDR article says 08's getting 25% LESS

I know I'm thinking about ways to combine trips and reconsidering long vacation trips with the fifth wheel now that diesel is approaching $4. 00/ gallon. I'd like to post a poll to see what others are thinking.

I haven't figured out how to post a poll. :{

smart car

I actually went and looked at the smart cars and they are not bad. There is definitely more leg room than my Jeep has. The only down side is there is only a 500 lb weight limit with both passengers!! I would consider it if I lived closer to work.

Yup, definetly.

Kinda worries me. This $106 to fill is getting F'ing rediculous. .

I have been driving SLOWER, acelerating slower, and my overall driving speeds are slower.

Been forced to drive my 03 Jetta wagon.

Getting the race car ready today for this weekend, I started taking a long look at the Yamaha scooter I use for a pit bike. Now that it's getting warmer around here, maybe I'll ride that some... and hope I don't get ran over.

Oh ya, both my cummins sit while I'm driving my vw tdi. What a shame. Wait until we see $5. 00/gal in the near future. It's $4. 15 here now.

:{:{ :I,m really watching my trips, and will be driving the Nissan (31 MPG) a lot more. #@$%! Love my CTD, but the 100+ every two weeks is getting old.

I can't see much choice except to pay pay pay. My fuel bill last month was just over $2000. I guess I'll have to increase sales to pay the man. Maybe one truck will get traded for a Sprinter.

yea, driving as much less as possible, I need my truck for work and I have entertained the thought of getting a gasser, but then I am sure as soon as I would ,, the gas prices would start trying to catch up with the ridiculious diesel prices, I am not sure what this will all come to , but if the 'gov' was really interested in stimulating the economy as they say,, they would find a way to get fuel back to affordable prices and they would see a lot of things happen to stimulate the economy,, maybe it would reduce a little of the buying expences driven up by high fuel costs, maybe a little increase in tourism and travel, maybe a little spending on other things with money we are now putting into our fuel tanks,, a meazly 300 to 1200 propsal that Bush/Congress, is talking isn't going to do squat,,,,,,,,,maybe buy a tank of fuel at this rate, maybe two

We haven't slowed down much lately. We still travel with the 5'er and I still use the 07. 5 for the daily commute. The 96 cost/mile for fuel is now about the same, but got to love the tow capability of the 6. 7 though. We are still paying less for fuel than most of the civilized world and it has been comming to this for a whole lot of years. Yea, I'm miffed about it, but really, what can I personally do, I already drive concervatively and my wife drives a little Ranger, Alb is not really a Motorcycle friendly city and I'm too fat to ride a bicycle.

Combining trips. Staying home more. On tv yeaterday a big oil company was asked what they were going to do with 120,000,000 daily profit they were making and he said LIGHT MORE CIGARS.

Bought a V Star motorcycle with hopes of saving on fuel. Like someone else said; I just hope I don't get run over. My truck has been used as a daily driver to work and back and, on work related trips. I just can't afford driving it any longer. I'm not sure if I can mention it here but, it is for sale in the TDR classified's.

I've been watching the Smart Cars too. FWIW, they are also flat towable, so they should make a great toad for a motor home.

My problem is that the closest Smart Car dealer is in Phoenix area, over 130 miles away. The thought of taking the car in for service that distance away is frightening. Think of it, if I had to leave the car there, and they could not offer a loaner, We would have to make to make one round trip with the Smart Car and two round trips with the other car. That's not going to work for me.

Even with the fuel economy of a smart car, I couldn't save enough money in fuel to pay for the registration and insurance, much less the cost of the car, sales tax, and interest.

A little less but a lot 'smarter'. My wife is in the midwest for a week so I have been driving her car, a 2007 Camry Hybrid which gets about 36/37 in town compared to my pickup which might get 12 in town. I also have been asking myself the question do I really need to run to Starbuck just for coffee or run to Lowes, Homedepot etc... I have been trying to combine the trips and use her car when I can.

I have been trying to think more like this:

3. 83/gal equals . 32/mile just for diesel at 12mpg which is about what I get in town. It it worth it?

I am sure though that as time passes we will getuse to it and we will be back to our old habits soon again.

With The $$$ I'm Saving With The Fuel Cost, I Went Out And Bought A Vw Bug And I Get 30 Mpg . Use The Truck On Weekends And For Towing Stuff . I Hope With The New Election Coming That Fuel Prices Will Go Down - Who Knows ?

When we come into some bank we will look into getting some sort of VW TDI. Fairly quick and 46mpg add the all wheel drive and its a nice little package. A Tourag would be nice but thats a lot of cash. Right now we live on a small island and the best means of transport is the cruiser bikes. Hardly drive the truck unless raining or big grocery shopping. 3. 98$ a gallon

I am definately driving less, combining trips, using wife's minivan (only 21mpg), riding the motorcycle and still manage to spend about $250/ month on two fillups. I have a faint memory of driving my 1998 24v with plenty of power and getting 22 mpg while diesel was 40 cents less than unleaded.

Bought a used Acura that gets 30-32 mpg two years ago and bought a motorcycle 5 years ago.

Driving the 2004 CTD less - even though it will get 15 around town.

Heading to Bristol this weekend with 5th wheel camper - 1700 miles round trip. Heading to Glacier NP in July with Lance truck camper - 3900 mile round trip.

I made it through Carter's folly with rising fuel prices. I hope to be able to make it through the Bush folly as well - time will tell.
