RMTDR KDP Killin' Cookout - Nov 12, all-day event

Folks,

I'm setting up a little get together out at the ranch, Oct-Nov time frame, at which I will be killing the KDP in my 93 CTD, followed by a big ole' cookout.

EDIT: 12 Nov 06. Showtime is 12-noon. Plan for a couple hours of wrenching and eatin'.

I'm sending this out to see if there is interest in making this a bigger event and having the RMTDR folks out for the day. The goal is two-fold: Kill the KDP, and eat lots of good food.

So, anyone interested in watching, or killing your very own KDP, reply to this thread and we'll make a big old good time out of it and have some good eats in the process.

As well, I need to locate a KDP jig for a 1st gen 12-valver. Anyone know of one in the area? Of course, the engine is on a stand and will be completely accessable, so maybe I don't need the jig. Anyone shed some light on this, and more importantly, anyone in the local area killed a KDP before?

Sam,

I got a 24 valve but will be there if at all possible. Marv is the keeper of the Rocky Mountain area KDP jig. Do a search and shoot him an e-mail. You may be able to get the jig from him. If nothing else I'm up for the food and company. It's been a while since I have been to your place and it will be good to see everyone again. I'll talk to you later when you get the details ironed out. Remember Oct. 1st is the Charity Dyno day at PFI in Ft. Collins. I'll talk to you later.

Sam,

That sounds like a great idea. I don't know if the thing has been killed on the '93 yet, but I'd like to find out, and kill it if necessary. Thanks.

Hi Marv - yes, got your PM, thanks! You are right - since it is out of the truck and easy to access I will tab it verses needing the jig. The whole engine is going to be cleaned and repainted, etc etc, so I'll reseal it as well and learn about it in the process. I've got time so I'll take my time on this one.

Thank you for the advice - I'm a Ninja with gassers but still a relative rookie when it comes to wrenching on these diesels... but that'll change  .

This wrench session is aimed primarily at using my engine as the demo to see what is involved with a teardown to get to the KDP, as well as learning what else is there and/or involved with that process. I don't think there will be time to do other rigs during the day, but at least we'd all then know what would be involved with the procedure (thumbs-up), and the cookout is at least 50% of the reason for coming out :-laf .

Hey Max,

How close are you to Meadow Lake airport? I'm thinking that if I don't pin this thing before you're get together, I may not want to be so far from home with the darn thing tore down. If location, schedule and weather cooperate, I might just fly down and pop in...

12 Nov 06 - it's ON!

Okay - think we have a good date for the KDP deathfest.

12 Nov, all day, cookout afterwards. Should be a good time, and educational. All are welcome and the more the merrier.

Come on out, have some fun, drink a brew, eat some chow, kill a KDP, and bench race all day of course :-laf

Where do you live in Peyton? I might stop by depending on what is going on... . Someone helped me do my KDP and he did most of the work so I won't be to much help

Technically in Falcon - I'm actually changing the city on my address list because I always end up explaining that I'm not really out in Peyton, but down real close to the Safeway at HW-24 and Woodman Rd.

-12-noon showtime -

This will be a 'lunch' event - starts at 12-noon. We're going to do chicken and burgers for the cookout. Anyone want to offer a side dish?

While I'm here - can I get another volley of replies for those that are coming out? Gotta get enough food and beer ya know ;)

Sam,

How late are you planning on having this go? I would like to go, but unfornately I would not be there until 4:00 or later.

Thanks,

Doug

. . well odds are we'll probably be done eating by 4 but heck, these things can go wrong in a hurry - maybe we could plan to eat at 4, after we're all done wrenching. In fact, that's not a bad idea. Oh heck, the KDP killin' part may go real fast - we'll just plan to eat after the wrenchin' is done. Either way drop my a line Doug and we'll see where we're at.

Alright - everything is a go for this Saturday. I ordered several KDP tabs from Cummins - if anyone wants one of them for your own KDP killing session I'll have some for you - $2 bucks each.

Address and map (zoom in/out as necessary):

The address is: 11871 Turney Rd, Falcon, CO 80831

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.ad...on&state=CO&zipcode=80831-6755&searchtab=home

The house is blue/white on the SW corner of Turney and Tompkins - can't miss it, or the big honkin' shop next to it. Everything will be going on in the shop.

Parking: Alongside the shop is a large wooden corral with a very large red granite rock parking area in front of it - please park on the rock.

There are two concrete driveways for overflow - one each in front of the house and shop.

We'll fire up the grill after we're good and ready. I'm thinking burgers and chicken. If y'all want to bring a side dish or a 12-pak of brewskies, well that'd be just dandy too :-laf . Cool - see you Saturday -
