how old is your front bumper and what color did you have it painted?

My bumpers are not yet a year old. :( I had them painted with the Chrome Powder Coating finsh which cost an extra $150.

The rocks are not from trail use they are from highway use. The front bumper has been chipped up pretty good do to flying rocks and such on the roadways.

I would buy the bumper again though, I love the way they look and the construction is great. The just need to spend some more time on the paint prep and maybe a few more coats of powder coat wouldn't hurt either.

You can see pics of them in my Reader's Rigs under my login name.

I also have the silver (chrome) GR539. My rear one has some rock chips, but that is expected. The flaking or other problems, except for one thing. You can make your own decision on whether it's my fault or the prep. When I was installing the winch, it dropped onto the bumper down inside and a 4 inch by 3/8" section of powdercoating "fell off" of the edge of the piece of metal it fell on. It hasn't rusted yet and that was a week ago. I think for now I'm going to use some silver touch up paint from the wife's silver Sonata. I've had the Road Armor on for almost two months.

I like the look and get a lot of compliments.

For all of the folks who are feeling worked over by shoddy workmakship on the paint issue of the Road Armor bumper, I can offer the only solution I have seen other friends settle for. Rather than dump more money into finish issues by having the manufacturer refinish the shoddy worksmanship or just unfortunate lifespan of original coating, why not just have the products locally sandblasted, primered and then Polyurethane coated? Rhino lining type applicators can give you the best durablility in finish you could ask for.

I had the roof of my Toterhome sprayed with a white colored Polyurea last year and it has not only held up better in finish against low hanging branches, sun, and the elements, it has remained WaterPROOF period.

Give this some serious thought before getting worked over again thinking you're getting off cheaper by having it fixed to "new" again by the manufacturer.

YES,,,,,,, I had thought of this,,,But isn't the RHINO LINING a ruff teture ,,and hard to keep clean ,,(i. e. ) bugs,,road grim,,etc??

at 150 units per month , there has to be a ton of members with their front bumpers. how is the paint holding up?

I've been happy with mine. It did have chips around the shackle brackets right from the start. They have got to have a better way to ship the things. All that weight on those two points is bound to cause a little damage.

I just prepped and re-finished the two places myself with some touch up paint that was a good match.

HELLO. .

May I ask you all,,those of you that don't seem to have ANY peeling problems,,What part of the country do you all live in?? Meaning do you have the FOUR SEASONS!!?? Mud,,Snow,"SALT"Sleat,Rain, Bugs... etc. ??

Polyurethane can be applied as smooth as gel coat if the nozzleman knows how to keep the overspray from botching it up.

I have seen several polyurethane coatings on the rocker panels of trucks etc. that were as smooth as glass. The rough texture is a second spray that the shops do to hide the runs if they mess it up, also for traction in a bed application etc.

Almost forgot, the roof of my toterhome is easier to clean now that it has the WHITE colored bedliner applied to it. It washes up with soap and water just as easy as the body paint. I also run this vehicle through commercial truck/ RV wash stations with the high pressure "no touch" car wash systems at least twice a month. It was done by a small mom and pop shop in Great Falls, MT called Bullhide bedliner/ Montana Elastomers. I can't say enough about how good of a job they did for us. All they do is polyurethane and polyurea coatings.

I'm in the seattle area with most of my travel in the NW region. We don't believe in SALT. Other than that, I feel I get most types of weather and abuse including deer and coyotes. Seems like most stuff just bounces right off.

i think knocking without giving them a chance at road armor to fix the problem is not the thing to do. i own my own business for the past five years and am not that kind of person. but on the other hand , they told me at road armor if my paint was falling off after this short time that there was a problem with paint prep and it will be warranty. i think they should pay shipping or allow me to have it painted locally as long as i get them several estimates. what is the best way to handle this.

The LEAST these people should do is either pay for shipping both ways or send you a new one and pay for yours to be returned. I have been undecided about what bumpers to put on mine, but at lest I can take them off MY list of replacements. Thanks for the heads up... . :)

Most aftermarket bumpers are powder coated and it looks good for a while but it is far to brittle to hold up under rock chip damage. I had to take off my bumper, sand blast it and repaint it.

I used a high zinc undercoat and then the spraycan beadliner Walmart sells in their automotive. It is great! If it ever rusts it can be repaired/resprayed. The other alternative is have it Rinoed. I though about it, but it would making bumper repairs a real pain.

Good Luck

Mike
