Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Road Draft Tube

How long is too long for an extension for the crankcase vent? I extended mine about 8" to just below the tie rod. I kept noticing oil splatter spots (tiny ones) all over the front of my fuel tank and all over my prefilter setup in front of the tank. I thought it was from the occasional drip out of the transmission rear seal getting flung by the u-joint but the angle seemed all wrong.



I was eyeballing my tube the other day looking at a drip ready to fall on the garage floor and noticed a nice straight shot to the area where I had been noticing oil speckles. Bingo!! 65mph and the drops peter-pan their way to the front of the fuel tank.



I'd like to go some other route now but dont want it too long if it will hurt anything. Perhaps the other side of the frame would be better.

I had mine extended about 2 feet down under the axle for a while, tied off to the bottom of the shock mount. It pointed slightly back also. The oil STILL hit the fuel tank, but it was reduced by 3/4 at least from having a 10" extension on the tube... .

Best way to Clean?

What have ya'll found to be most effective at removing the goop that you get from the drip? I sprayed under my truck with Gunk degreaser and hit it with a pressure washer, but for the life of me it didn't seem to make much difference. Is there another solution out there?

You guys don't like free rust proofing?? I added 8 inches to my breather just to get the fumes away from the fan that was blowing/sucking it through the radiator and collecting dust till pluged up and making engine run hotter. I have seen some breather tubes acually touching the ground on semi's, but that looks a little gay.

Woulda thought that Cummins would have installed something a little more effective than a plain hose in the first place... something like what they offer on that webpage. Or... you'd think the EPA wouldn't allow engines to be made that drip oil by design.

That was my thought as well.

But they supplied you a dinky bottle mounted in the worst place so it can vent to cover your engine with gunk. So what's the problem?

Any idea on how the EnviroGuard would handle the problem of the engine dumping oil when you tilt it forward offroading? I can't get DC to do the TSB for that under warranty and I can't afford to pay them to do it.
