Does anybody know if the new software is out for the ROAD RELAY unit for '01 and '02 ISBs?

I asked Cummins themselves at their website and all I got back was a marketing email telling me all about the Road Relay. They never did address my question. They promised it July '02 so... . is it out?

Ian.

sorry about the format, that's how it arrived to me. It's a whole lot of reading for not saying anything...

Summary: Road Relay 4 for Dodge

Solution:

Thanks for your E-mail message.

CUMMINS NEW ROADRELAY 4 ON-BOARD COMPUTER

24-VALVE TURBO DIESEL Columbus, Indiana - 6/9/2000

COLUMBUS, Ind. (June 9, 2000) With Cummins, Inc. 's new

RoadRelay 4 on-board computer, available to the Dodge Ram market in

August, 2000, drivers will be able to know just how far they can push their

Cummins 24-valve turbo diesel engine powered Dodge Rams.

This in-cab, real-time system provides drivers with performance, maintenance,

safety, optional GPS, and routing information, and has previously been only

available to the trucking and motorhome markets.

"Because of RoadRelay's dramatic success with commercial trucks, we know it will

help Cummins 24-valve Ram owners, too," said Cummins Ann-Kristin de Verdier,

director, engine data information systems. "By giving our customers the inside

scoop on their engine, they'll get useful data to help them run hard and get the

best performance from their engines. "

The Cummins RoadRelay 4 is mounted on the floor, on or under the dash, and

has a bright, easy-to-read, digital screen. For performance-minded drivers, the

system offers instantaneous, digital read-outs of engine load, fuel economy, fuel

rate, fault tables, coolant temperature, oil and boost pressures, battery voltage,

vehicle speed, RPM, and more. The information lets drivers know just how hard

they're driving, and how much further they can reach with their Cummins diesel

engine.

When travel times, distances, routes and exact locations are of

greatest importance, drivers can access a wealth of information,

including trip time, distance, and fuel consumption. The

computer even provides an estimated time of arrival, a real-time

clock and alarm clock. RoadRelay 4 also offers a GPS model

that, in addition to all other functions, provides heading, a mark

and go-to function as well as latitude and longitude, making their

truck even more ready to go anywhere.

Electronic systems monitor and reminder

With RoadRelay 4, Cummins leadership and innovations in

technology for the diesel industry make engine maintenance

more efficient than ever. For example, the on-board computer

has a maintenance monitor which can track up to four

preventive maintenance events, such as oil, tire, brake and fuel

filter changes. It also logs the services performed on the vehicle

so the owner can keep it in top shape. Cummins RoadRelay 4

offers warnings for over-speed and over-revving, and a gear

shift reminder, too.

Cummins, Inc. , headquartered in Columbus, Ind. , is

the world's largest producer of diesel engines above 200

horsepower. The company provides products and services for

customers in markets worldwide for engines, power generation

and filtration. In 1999, Cummins reported sales of $6. 6 billion.

RoadRelay is the window into today's electronic engine. It began in 1991 as an in-cab drivers aid showing "real time" time spent and fuel consumed at idle, PTO, in top gear, and cruise control for over-the-road trucks. It also, with a touch of a button, provides average MPG, trip mileage, overspeeding and much more. The goal was to assist the driver to improve vehicle operation and lower operating costs.

Today's RoadRelay does all that and has evolved into a device that provides business solutions. Today's device is compatible with satellite, national cellular carriers and short range radio frequency (SRRF) systems. This compatibility enables fleets to stay in touch with their drivers and keep track of their assets to maximize benefits. The latest feature/benefit of RoadRelay is Anti-theft. Combining the RoadRelay with the intelligence of the engine control module, Anti-theft can protect your vehicle from theft whether the vehicle is turned off or left idling.

I was all set to buy the Road Relay a few months ago but was told by them that i should wait since i have an 02'. I spoke to a friend at Cummins about 2 weeks ago who said he had heard the new updated RR4 is out and ready to ship. I plan on ordering one in the next month or so. I want to confirm that it will be ok first though.

01 - 02 RR4 Software Update

The answer to your question is No. They do not have the software out yet. I have been running a Beta release and it still has a few problems. It is much better than the original release but still has problems.

Original Program had problems reading the fueling parameters from the ECM. All readings that were associated with fueling (gallons per hour for example) would show up as all zeros. From what I can tell this is fixed in the Beta. I now have a new problem. Water temp only goes to 204 degrees then back to zero. Another problem I am having is with the total number of miles displayed by the RR4 is 2XX,XXX. My actual is about 40K.

So I am still waiting patiently

Bummer. Thanks for the inside info Batman01. I too intend to wait until all things are working correctly. Thanks for pioneering all the work for us!

I think you will be happier if you wait. I have had to pull mine 3 times for updates and it is getting old. If they can work out the last of the bugs it will have been worth it. I will keep you posted.
