Well I saw it just before I hit it but it was too late. A wet road patch that was not packed. #ad

The driver's side front wheel sprayed the tar all up the side of the driftwood truck.

Help... . This truck was only built a couple of weeks ago and I do not want to damage the new paint. What do you guys recommend for removing the tar safely? #ad

Ordered 3/29/00 - Built in St. Luis - Picked Up 6/23/00: 2001 Driftwood/Agate Leather Quad Cab, 3500 SLT+, 4x4, 5. 9L H. O. , 6-Speed, Camper Group, Trailer Group, Light Group and 2 (Oops, actually got full tank) gallons of gas.

Soon to add: 2-tone Intense Blue top and bottom, Bug Deflectors, Exhaust Brake, Brush/Grill Guard, LineX Bedliner...

I keep a can of "Bug and Tar Remover" in the truck. The quick shine stuff from Griot's Garage works well also. The sooner the better with tree sap. I had some on the roof of the truck for only 24 hours and it left a stain...

2001 HO 6 speed Regular Cab SLT 4x4 3. 54 anti spin 2500. Used for the daily grind and sneaking away to some secret Baja beaches toting a cabover

Same thing on my white 01. I use WD40 Sprayed on a soft cloth. Check warnings. Some of the others like ZEP will damage paint. WD40 worked good on mine. No stain. No damage. Later.

WD-40, Kerosene, or Diesel will work. Wash good after and wax often to prevent anything from sticking again.

Thanks for the advice. I just picked up a new can of WD40 the other day. I guess I will put it to work.

Plain mineral spirits works great too and has never damaged/stained my white paint.

Ronson lighter fluid, use on tar, and grease on carpet in truck, wont ruin carpet and paint, dries quick without a stink, just in case it ever got spilled, get it off wuick i feel the paint still takes a few months to cure. on new cars we can sometimes stick finger nail into paint and feel it give to fingernail, we always do it in unobtrusive area of paint, and it will come back out in a few weeks, but the tar can leave a yellow stain on new paint if u are not careful

Mike,

I ran over a can of highway YELLOW paint
one night on my way home. My old truck was midnight metallic blue. I used mineral spirits and almost all of wiped right off. Where it didn't come off easily, I used lighter fluid just like Brandon. As soon as all the yellow was gone, I washed and waxed the spots that had been wiped with the chemicals. Never left a mark of any kind.
