I've removed the pics in this thread and apoligize ahead for it, but I had to reorganize my pics. It still has milage info and if you check the last post there will be some of the pics

If you noticed the bed in the mirror its the only pic I have of it from the digital camera, I do have a couple on my cell phone but don't know how to resize them for this web site. The reason is, that the bed was so dirty from rain in Kansas and then the snow from Frisco, Colorado were I stayed that night, I did not want to take a pic of it. The roads were so dirty in Kansas that it seemed the dirt just jumped off the side of the road and on to my truck when it rained and then the wet roads from the snow melt into the Rockies made it even worse, even with the mud flaps.

The reason for the trip was to have my new B&W Elite flat bed installed on the C&C I just bought, If you happend to notice the white bundle attached to the temperary wheel wells in the pictures they are the skies for the return trip because I have never skied in Colorado and could not pass on the chance, I just never expected the bad weather in April.

I still have to have the truck weighed with the bed for DMV registration which is why I don't have the final numbers as to the MPG and stats. more info to follow, and here are some more pics

Here is the view out my motel window and the temp droped to 2* in the morning, and the new 6. 7 CTD had no problems in the that cold of temperatures when I started it, of course I had the new Power Service ULSD formula in the Diesel too prevent jelling.

Yup... 2 degrees in April. . It's a good thing we've got a bad case of GLOBAL WARMING, otherwise it might be as low as ... . say... . 1 degree!

Sorry to go off topic, but I couldn't help it...

Heh- speaking of global warming it's been very cool around most of the northern hemisphere. US & Canada, Russia, europe, etc. It got down to the high 20s in the higher elevations of Oahu one night last week. Maybe the next ice age is getting started, LOL

The warmest tempeture was 45* through out the whole trip and that was California too. I was tracking the weather before the trip and was 70* plus even in Denver, I guess I will have to go back to my brain washing coarse, now that the trip is over.

I wish I had more info today on MPG and other items but had to put off one more day weighing the truck and wont fill it untill its weighed. I can tell you that my 04. 5 CTD mpg seems 3 or 4 MPG better than the 6. 7 even with no bed at speeds of 70/75 mph, I never went over the speed limit except in the begining where I was varying my speed for breakin which was not that many miles

All right wheres the bed pic's??

I picked up my B&W bed about this time last year. The weather was a lot warmer then.

If you didn't have many more goodies installed than I did. Your bed will be around 1200# give a little eather way.

Here they are and I expect to see yours soon as well. Sorry it took so long but I had to wait for my digital camera to be returned from my daughter, she wanted to take pics of the drag races in Vegas.

The person in the pics is my salesman and he sure was a big help in the ordering of the truck, I bothered him just about every day with questions on the HP increase or not and the shipping arangements or lack of, which is why I had to drive to Kansas. I wanted to make sure there were no issues with the 6. 7 CTD or trans, that way I could refuse the truck and not have to deal with warranty.

I have been wanting to see one of the C&C's with a B&W bed. It looks real good. Damn I need to figure out how to afford one now. :{

I wish I could have gotten the full tool box on the front of the bed. But with only 8' to play with I couldn't loose that much floor space. So I got the jack box instead. I do carry a 5' high lift jack anyway.

One thing to watch at least in my area. My lower boxes sweat inside real bad. I have to put everything into some sort of water proof containers if I don't want it wet. It might not be a problem in your area.

That is a nice looking bed as well, if mine didn't have to be dual purpous, I probably would have got that style as well, I like the large flat surface it provides at the same time it has the tapered rear. I think they have learned about the moisture in the lower boxes, they now have small holes in the bottom so they drain and breath better. Going through the rain and snow on the return trip, the boxes dried out rather quickly.

Here is a bed like yours in the factory waiting for the install or the bed to be shiped to be installed. Sorry for the dark picture, but it is black.

You got farther into the factory than I did. LOL

The only place they let me go was the install bay to see my bed before they installed it. Then they gave me the keys to a loaner vehicle and said to go see the surrounding area. There isn't much around there eather. LOL

I get another truck I'll be back for a another bed.

Does that black bed have a door where the center marker lights go?

I don't remember if it had the door you mentioned, where the center marker lights were. I also was givin a loaner car and was happy about it, because even with the tour it was a long time before they were through with it. I really enjoyed the tour and saw the reason for the high quality in their products. Here are some more pics of beds during production, there is even a special application bed with part of the side boxes missing for a possible aux fuel tank that someone ordered.

OK, here is the MPG for the complete trip with and without bed.

4018 miles 287. 954 gallons= 13. 953 MPG

Without bed

2165 miles 147. 510 gallons= 14. 676 MPG

With bed

1853 miles 140. 364 gallons= 13. 201 MPG

I can break down the numbers better than that, but I am out of time, will post more tomarrow

Here is a better breakdown in numbers.

1st leg of the trip I didn't drive at any steady rate of speed because I only had 354 miles on the odometer, so the numbers will be slightly missleading, due to breakin procedure, traveling uphill from Ca. to Utah.

535 miles-38. 359 gallons= 13. 96 MPG/ overhead 14. 4 MPG

2nd leg of the trip I drove the speed limit at 75 MPH which was mostly flat through eastern Utah desert, and some climbing through the Rockies into Denver(Aurora-Flying J)

505. 9 miles-31. 980 gallons= 15. 82 MPG/ overhead 16. 2 MPG

3rd leg of the trip is going to be a little confusing because the numbers are way off for reasons I can't explain except for the elevation in Denver at 5K above sea level. This is mostly downhill on a slow drop of elevation to Wichita Kansas. My overhead was showing only 10 MPG when I left the Flying J in Aurora CO where I filled the tank, and my injectors sounded like I was climbing a 6% grade with a load, I even pulled over to check the truck for any issues and found none, even checked the airfilter, the MPG was slightly increasing as I droped in elevation. I stopped in Burlington CO. and filled the tank again incase it was due to bad fuel.

Burlington# 155. 6 miles-12. 680 gallons= 12. 27 MPG/ overhead 13. 4 MPG

Wichita# 350. 3 miles-15. 902 gallons= 22. 028 MPG/ overhead 16. 9 MPG note: the tank did not fill all the way when I thought it did, reason for the next set of numbers being off as well.

The next bit of info is some city and HWY driving. I had to take my wife to KC airport, for her flight home, from Chanute Kansas where I stayed for 5 days getting the bed installed. It only took 1/2 day for the install, we just wanted to tour Kansas until her flight home. so this leg of the trip is all flat land low elevation driving.

337. 6 miles-30. 150 gallons= 11. 198 MPG/15. 6 MPG note:see above note.

Now some of this driving doesn't include the weight of the bed but it is 50%of the miles, so I will declare it as 50/50 with bed weight

281 miles-18. 519 gallons= 15. 9 MPG/ overhead 14. 1 MPG

The rest of the trip now has the weight of 9150 lbs with the bed, on the return trip and now is climbing slowly up hill to Burlington CO. , where I filled up so I might possibly see why I had such terrible MPG before through Denver.

374. 6 miles-33. 519 gallons= 11. 18 MPG/ overhead 11. 9 MPG

This leg is all climbing from the Colorado/Kansas boarder into the Rockies in Frisco,CO. , where I stayed for almost 2 nights. I did want too ski for 2 days but the threat of 1 foot of snow for the next day, after skiing all day, changed my mind, and I left at 3:30PM to avoid the slow driving if it snowed.

238. 3 miles-19. 874 gallons= 11. 99 MPG/ overhead 12. 9 MPG

this was the longest part mainly due too skiing all day then driving over 500 miles into the nite, and it mostly is all down hill driving from Frisco,CO. , except for the Green river Canyon in Utah where I believe they should test drive all trucks up that grade in the summer. I counted at least 4 runaway truck ramps going east, down the grade.

452 miles-30. 703 gallons=14. 72 MPG/ overhead 15. 5 MPG

This last part is the home leg and I drove the truck until empty at home for the weighing of the truck for DMV so I pumped 5 gallons too make it to the scales and this is mostly down hill too.

787. 4 miles-56. 268 gallons=13. 99 MPG/ overhead 15. 1 MPG

These numbers are at the speed limit through out the trip except as noted in the beginning, and the overhead computer was fairly accurate and I will believe it from now on unless I take another trip, when it is more precise.

Boy - those numbers suck. My '99 got 18 when new with stock bed! Then only 15 to maybe 16 on a good day with summer fuel with the flatbed. (Headache rack really messes with the wind. ) Quickly drops to 11-12 in winter - always heading into the bloody wind - with any type of load that catches any wind. (Bed Toys)

I would really have liked to see at least 18mpg with NO bed!

Thanks for the thread tho!

BTW - your first pics come up as JPeG's, but the ones that I wanted to save are Bitmaps. ????

Well I expected less MPG with the dualy vrs SRW on the my 2500 and not to disappointed but would like to see better, the truck now weighs over 10K by now and still the same MPG. Thought everyone that was thinking about buying the new 6. 7 would like actual numbers.

I'm not a computer guy and don't make since of your question, the first pics were taken with the digital camera, resized by my daughter for posting and the second set of photos were from same camera but formated for direct download/upload onto this site because I don't have the program on my computer to downsize. Hope to have that soon.

Mine is a dually and also 4wd. Kant tell if yours has balls under the front or not. Maybe that has some relivence to why you wanted to git outta town BEFORE the storm?

I'm sure hoping it's 4wd with those numbers!

But there really is more to the equasion too. What I'm really concerned with is the loaded milage. Is with your bed - mine is always in a somewhat loaded state compared to a pickup bed that airflow is much better on. Mine also weighs in around 9000 empty. So what kinda milage a feller can expect in a partial loaded state is what really needs comparing as Cab and Chassis guys will never have the motor completely unloaded. However - 13 with the empty box on @ 70mph just doesn't leave much hope.

I would gladly give up some ponies to have some more MPG! My 435 gits me down the road fine. If they could take that 605 (?) and back it down 25% and fetch me 3-4 more MPG I would be a happy camper. (uh - hauler that is... )
