ox1, check signature below and will explain itself.

The weather was not the only reason for leaving early although it was a factor in my decision, I also would have skied all day and then leave immediately for California driving at 25 MPH.

Sorry, don't know were sig went, it was there with post preview, I told you I was computer stupid. If its not there again check my profile.

Sorry for the old thread but I removed the attachments (pics) for future reference and apoligize in advance. I will be reposting pics as soon as I get my pics organized for posting. However take advantage of the MPG report while you are bored with reading this.

You might want to edit first post to remove ref to pics... I've been trying to figure out why I couldn't see them until your last post.

BTW, I would be nice to see the pics.

Sorry about that Wiredawg, I have edited out the frist post now and here are a few pics, The first one is were we stayed in Idaho Springs, Colorado, were we woke up to the snow then had to drive 50 miles in it with a light rear end, so I was extra carefull. The second is the City Hall in Chanute Kansas were we stayed while the bed was installed. I dont have any quality pics of the complete truck due to heavy rain when I picked it up and it didn't stop until I was back in Colorado, and then it was covered in mud and snow. The strange looking rear wheel covers were built by me for the trip so I would not get pulled over. The registration was not complete yet because I had to have it weighed as a complete vehicle and was a grey area of the law (loop Hole) that allowed me to drive it that way. In california you can drive a C&C with out bed to get the bed installed, but driving across four different States, I didn't want to take a chance with it.

Very nice. Thanks for the pics. How did the 19. 5s perform in the snow? keep us posted on further updates.

Take care,

Wiredawg

I'm sorry, how well did the tires (19. 5") preform in the snow?

Wiredawg
I've never refered to tires like that so i'm sorry if I didn't understand it. The tires performed as well as could be as expected but I'm used to having only four tires on the ground. this is my first 3500 DRW and it sure felt better and reasuring knowing I had better traction. After the bed was installed the only snow I drove on was at least two days old so it wasn't the same. This truck is my second 4X4 and I will never buy another without it.

I left early from my sking because there was a large storm due in and I didn't want to drive at 30 MPH over 100 miles while crosing the Rockies, and not because I thought it would be unsafe.

Ohhh. I thought you had a 4500, not a 3500. My Bad. I've been toiling over getting a 4500 becase my 5er weighs 17K Lbs and I'm about 6. 500 Lbs overweight w/ my 3500. A dealership nearby said they know some excellent fabricators that could make a dually bed fit too. Just trying to see how the C&Cs perform. I'm used to avg 13. 5 mpg and 10 towing.

Thanks, Wiredawg.

Wiredawg,

I've ordered a new Ram 3500 cab and chassis which will be adequate for my 5er weight of 14,000# but really wanted a Ram 4500. I didn't order a 4500 because of the stiff suspension. I will have a CM flatbed installed. They don't look as nice as a factory pickup bed but are practical and I figure I'll get used to the appearance.

I didn't think of this until I'd already ordered a 3500 but the frames of all three cab and chassis models with the same CA dimension appear to be identical. I wonder if the springs are the same length and the spring mounts have the same spacing. It might be possible to buy a 4500 with the huge brakes and

19. 5" wheels/tires and soften the ride by replacing the springs with a set of springs from a 3500.

I guess it might be easier to just have a spring shop soften the ride with selective removal of leaves from the spring pack.
