I need mudflaps--no call them rockguards--to stop the gravel thrown by the rear wheels. Trailering on the gravel roads will cause a lot of trailer dents if they are not used.

With all this talk about hitch problems I looked mine over pretty good. I think I could run a length of angle or box channel through the hitch and bolt some sort of flap to that.

Has anyone done something like this. If I know what materials you used it will give me a headstart on the design.

Check with ROADWING INC. , Redmond Oregon.
1-888-548-6336. They make a removable mud
flap system that mounts on your hitch. Their
price is $169. 00 , includes S&H. Call for info package. Just remove your hitch ball mount to install or remove the flaps.

I bought an "UltraGuard" mud flap from Cabela's for my rig. It's a HEAVY full width 3/8" thick black rubber monster. Not pretty, but it does the job.

You can either clamp it to the rear bumper with the supplied clamps or clamp it to a 2" draw bar with the supplied "U" clamp, which is what I did. The "U" clamp is bolted to a piece o' angle iron the width of the mud flap. (You supply the angle iron. ) The mud flap is then bolted to the angle iron.

I sandwiched the flap between the angle iron and a piece of flat iron where I bolted it through for additional reinforcement. Painted both iron pieces with Rust Oleum Medium Satin Black to give it that authentic "homemade" look. #ad

The flap comes with pretty good instructions. (Much clearer than what I've done here!) I didn't like the looks of the "clamp on the bumper" method. The clamps kinda have that "temporary" aura about them. That's why I went with the "bolt to angle iron to draw bar" method. This method also nice in the fact that the mudflap comes on and off with the drawbar so it's only on the truck when it's really needed.

Happy trails! Tim
