Rodent eradication under hood

2 days rodent free, but my truck is in the garage now with dryer sheets taped to the batteries. Now I have my Honda Pioneer 1000 SXS parked where my truck was, and it might be the next victom. I sure hope not, cuz I use my SXS more than my pickup. I'm just going to break down and buy one of them large wooden sheds that are so popular down here. This Dually does fill up a single car garage. It also keeps the garage warm when the block heater is plugged up. Sure is nice to jump into a,warm pickup when its freezing out, and,no snow or ice removal. Win win.

Many years ago had mice & rats under hood in all our vehicles. Used the dryer sheets successfully for several years....just had to change them often to keep the odor fresh. Started
zip-tying a couple of bars of Irish Spring bath soap under the hood 5 years ago and no rodents since. I just change them once a year. Info was passed to me from a body shop owner.

If Irish Spring works under the hood then that frigin' obnoxious Axe "Body Spray" that the millennials insist on dousing themselves with should clear every living creature out in a 50' radius of the truck....... just a thought...:-laf

As a point of information: In the process of expiring, the little wire-eater chewed up everything he could reach. Make sure to put your trap out of reach of important wiring, etc. That glue-trap is sticky-taped to the battery blanket.

Some friends in Nevada use pure mint oil under the hood.. Works for them

If it was my truck i would continue to trap them. They are usually in family groups and attract one another.

I live on a dead end/cul de sac. We have serious rats and raccoons. The rats will tight rope like the squirrels on the power lines/and phone line/cable lines that are bundled...... sometimes the rats and squirrels get into fights. The cats, raccoons and dogs sometimes tangle at night as well. Once when in our shed, i opened a drawer and a mouse scampered up my arm and jumped.off my shoulder and kept going. There was a dead rat in that same drawer. They had made a home there. And put pieces of shop rags in there.

I park (in my driveway) front (of truck) facing toward the road so the people's lights shine through the grill as they turn around. The truck doesn't fit in the carport anyway. The carport was built in 1935 for much smaller cars.

I'll have to agree with a lot that has been said, both as someone that has experienced rodent problems and "fixes". I have used glue traps but you really should be smart about using them, placement and targeted rodents. They can be a very sad way to die should a non targeted critter get caught. Mice/rats- I don't care about them, call me what you want about that but that's how I feel. The best "fixes" I've found are really simple. Leave the hood up/open. I live in an area that can get really windy, so if I know it's likely to be windy I have a scrape piece of wood about 1"x 1 1/2" x 14" and bungee strap that I use to hold the hood up and keep it from going all the way up. If it's not windy, I just leave the hood fully open. Inside an enclosed area like that cab, "Fresh Cab" works good.
