Scary brakes/bad vacuum pump?

Hello,
I am trying to gain some benchmark info on some weird problems with my truck. At this point I could use a few folks to do a little test and tell me what they hear. . thx in advance

With you truck in a safe place (empty parking lot) with a slight downgrade and your drivers window open, leave the engine off and allow the truck to roll for a little bit.

Please tell me if you hear anything, especially scraping or grinding that would otherwise be masked by the noisy engine.

Also take this time to see exactly what your truck feels like to steer or even brake with the engine off. (remember the parking brake works well if adjusted properly)

My front ball joints where not greased in the steering linkage.

Totally quiet until I touched the brakes to stop it. Just normal slight 'hiss' from the pads.

you should hear some disk pad drag as they lightly touch at all times. . also you might hear some drive shaft bearing noise/u joint if you didn't get all the mud out from your foray into the tundra #ad

. . might even be some mud in the brake area. .
oh and maybe some chain noise from your xfer case
 
All kinds of noises, most of them rather sick sounding.

I did find a dent in the steering stab. , A branch in the front axle assy. , mud everywhere despite numerous high pressure cleaning attempts... .

However the noises are the same... #ad

I get slight pad noise dragging against the calipers,and I think my trac bar is making a clink now too.

I agree with Dave's suggestion on 'feeling' what it takes to stop a truck with no power brakes or steering. I had first hand experience with that stopping the truck doing 50mph with no power.

Didn't hear anything except the brakes. No grinding.

David, not what you wantta hear, but you need to get that baby up on jack stands, then turn, twist, and shake everything. Last year the old 89 250 gas burner managed to get stuck in some really nasty, runny mud, after a great deal back and forth effort, I walked out, got a tractor and
pulled it.

Now the bad news, within two weeks, had to replace inner wheel bearing on both wheels. Mud is nasty bearing eating stuff. At least down South, I suspect it's the same with Yankee mud. Good luck, Ronnie

at least these new brakes work when the truck is running. that is more than I can say for my 95 with those vacumn assisted brakes
