I did call Paragon in the beginning but was told that I did not have the unit installed and adusted correctly. It was installed correctly but because of the design, cargo hitting the channels/tracks that fold the unit, it was constantly getting jammed and falling off the track. If you never open the unit and never carry anything in the bed I suppose this would be a great unit to have. But, to actual use it and carry cargo it totally sucks in my opinion.

First, no cover is perfect for everything, once you figure wich comprimise you can live with thing narrow down. I have the "fold a cover" hard cover. Mine opens in the front, and the back. It accordians up nicely, and I made a cool toolbox under the front section. I can now haul full sheets of steel / plywood, and still hide things the criminal element. I also have a place for tools, batterys, and my bass. It works for me, the people at Fold a cover are top notch and honest, and the first one I had lasted 12 years.

One mans opinion. Pics on request. Still cant figure how to post them here.

I had the Pace-Edwards rolltop on my Dakota for 12 years - all trouble free. Two days ago I installed the P-E "Jackrabbit" cover on my 2500. It took two hours to install and works great. I also installed a tailgate lock so now my bed is secure from casual/unmotivated thieves. There is a picture in my reader's rigs and if you want specific information PM me.

I just ordered the paragon cover a few weeks back should have it in a week or so. From what I can tell the 3rd generation looks to be an improvement over what mcclane had. I'll report back when I get it installed and test it thru the car wash. I like the design concept of it but now I worry that it may not be all that it seems based on your experience.

I have had a Peragon since 1998. Works good the new ones have better hardware for removing it easier. It locks and with a tail gate lock keeps things secure. Remember that due to its design it is not 100 percent water proof. Good enough for me though. Also if you dent a panel some how they will sell you a new panel. You don't have to buy a whole new cover.

Also had the strap go between the cab and bed. Wrapped around the drive shaft. When it snapped it was like a gunshot! So now I have a shorter strap. No problem using it though.

Having had a few trucks and a few different bed covers over the years I have found the very best cover to be the Tri fold solid by ExTang. It installs fast removes fast when needed. Has supported my weight a few times. With my locking tailgate my stuff is safe and secure. The only down side is the price around $800.

We had the Pace Edwards on our 96. When we plain wore it out 12 years later {we are 18 year fulltime Rv'ers}, we decided to install a new cover as that was all that was wrong with it. When that had run it's race 4 years later, we decided to try something different so we went with the ReTracs roll top cover. It was pretty but a bird "did it's thing" on the cover & it was so stained, we never did get it back to looking good. A freak hail storm last summer also put a hole right through the cover.
We decided to go back to the Pace Edwards for our 2014, They made a move level cover and we love the key fob button that we can auto open and close to any spot. Of course if all these key and key fobs continue, Dutch is going to have to wear a fanny pack just to hold them! :-laf:D Hugs, Di
