i would just like to know how to get the rollover valve out. i have noticed lately when i stop for fuel the tank sucking air. i think this is the problem but what do you all think? thanks

It just pulls out. I use a big screwdriver to help pry on it a bit.

Obviously from reading my post you know that I feel the OF valve is overlooked when trying to track down a vaccum in the tank.

A must do for most of us older trucks!

Thanks for the "Rollover Valve" suggestions "Cooker"! You should not have any "wosh", presure, or vaccum build in our older 12V (maybe not even the newer 24V).

I run an axillary tank and it is been transferring slower and slower the last year or so (gravity feed). I thought mine was gaining presure but it is most likely vaccum like you stated.

I picked up a new valve from Dodge ($24) and rubber grommet. I tried to replace mine but found the factory valve up tight against the box crossmember. I have a longbox Excab if that matters. I had a full fuel tank and could not get enough room by just loosening the tank straps.

Here is what I found if you want to check your valve. The valve has a small hose barb that is exposed. I could not blow into the new valve very easy (tank vaccum) but could suck very easy (tank pressured up). I put a short rubber hose on my original valve and could not blow or suck anything... . Valve Failed!

I have replaced the rollover valve on a 1998, quad cab, long bed without any real problems other than the very tight fit. It didn't seem to be any harder or easier than on my 1996, reg cab, long bed.

Sorry for the misinformation in the other thread about it being an quick R+R install. Maybe all box crossmembers are not exactly in the same place or the fuel tanks might be not all be mounted to the same place on the frame?

i just wanted to check. i was prying on it the other day but thought i might break it so i stopped. thanks everyone. :D

Did mine tonight

Here is what I can add. I lowered the tank some by removing the strap on front and loosening the rear. This gave enough clearance to get at the valve. It took a while get the old valve out. Two screw drivers under the valve (not the grommet) got it started out.

I found the easiest way to get the new valve in was to insert the new grommet then add alittle grease to the valve. It seem to slip in pretty easy then.

Old valve still rattled like the new one but I could not get a air movement in or out of it.

After a few months for fueling and driving I try to report back on any change.
