Selling PU with Camper

I wish my camera was working (out of batteries). I was just down in Kanab Utah for a couple of days. In the RV park I was in, was a 1969 Rolls Royce pulling a maybe 20 TT. I've just run into him again at another RV park in Oregon. He said the Rolls pulls his trailer quite well. But, he's going to get a Dodge to pull the trailer from now on. I told him to look at the tdr for some good advise on what to get.

I saw a Mercedes E-class pulling a similar TT, but a Rolls (and a '69 at that) takes the cake. Would have loved to see a picture.

That's a real conversation piece! If it were mine and I wanted to pull a trailer with it, I'd be tempted to swap a Cummins powertrain in the Rolls... . :-laf

Believe me. I really wish I could have taken a picture of this rig. It was pretty cool. But, I dropped my darn camera, and broke the sliding door that keeps the batteries in. Well, at least it lasted thru most of my vacation.

I wish I had made of note of the TT he was pulling. It was longer than mine, so it really must have been 23-25 feet. It was a brand I have not seen before. Pretty nice looking.

That reminds me of a story in "Old Cars" years ago by a guy who, after being discharged after WWII, was driving home through Nebraska. He passed a farm where they were using a Chord to pull a hay wagon. The car, now worth at least a million, had a very heavy, powerful engine and front wheel drive.

The guy told that some engine testing was done (I dont remember where) Cadillac and another (I forget which one) ran about 250 hours at full open throttle. The Rolls engine ran over 400 hours at full open throttle.

I guess the most unusual towing combination was a 1963 corvair station wagen pulling a small camper just about as old. It was driven by a man in his 70s. Had letters on the back glass stating the mileage which was over 325k. It was smoking just a tad. This rig was headed north on I-85 torward Atlanta.

Back in 1991 I bought a 1971 Mercedes 220D. After a few problems that I could not figure out I went to a small European repair/restore shop. Wound up becoming friends with the mechanic. They were restoring a late 60s Rolls SS. I spent several hours checking out that huge luxury liner. What I found amazing was that many parts were GM. It had a GM 400 transmission, many of the bolt on items were GM, power steering, alt AC ect. That car had a dinky little column shifter. This shifter was only an electric actuator that controlled a servo to select gears. Kind of ahead of its time. The 6. 2 engine appeared large, I remember.
In this photo you can see the AC compressor and alt.
