questions for Doc

Single Malt Whisky

Had some big hail damage on the old roof. Going to be replaced, I hope in a few weeks. Problem is that it rained hard today and leaked into my great room. Question. Until the new roof is put on, should I just buy a tarp and nail it over the top of the roof where the leak is happening? Anybody have any experience with this? Any suggestions? Need to do something tomorrow were expecting more rain this coming week.

Thanks

Ya do what you have to do, a tarp will work fine, problem is keeping the wind from blowing it away or ripping it up. A bunch of old tires work good for keeping it in place. If you are a true redneck that can be the extent of your repair. 1x4s nailed around the edge will also work. Anywhere the wind can get under the tarp it will and will eventally rip it up.

Thanks for the response Illflem. Weird thing, last night it rained real hard for over 1 1/2 hours and the roof did not leak at all  Must be coming in around a roof vent and the wind has to be blowing a certian direction. I hate heights, so at this point I called the roofing company and they can get their ass out here and put a tarp-up or they can come out and do the new roof. It was suppose to be done over a month ago but the roofing company got backed up blah, blah, blah. This will be their 2nd trip out to fix the leak, I hope I am eating into their profits on the roofing job.

the roof at my work leaks real bad. . when it is just slightly raining outside, it is pouring inside. . [flat roof big enough to cover 30+ locomotives] roofers were there repairing it and from the same holes where water runs down, we had hot tar running down. . not a fun site... :(
