16' tandem axle trailer?

Enclosed Snowmobile trailer.

what is the sealant stuff used on the roof around the vents, etc. ? If it is silicone I would assume I can by a can full in place of the caulking type tubes.

I need to reseal the edges of the rubberized roof. TIA !

If you have an EPDM roof, forget silicone sealant. Take a look at the EPDM sealants for various applications here on Dicor's website. Dicor is a major supplier of EPDM roofing systems to the RV industry.

Many of these materials are also available at RV dealers and supply outlets.

I just bought a tube at Camping World the tube reads Pro-Shield made by Proco, LS301 white Lap sealant for use with rubber roof systems. Sorry can't remember price.

There are two type of Rubber roofs out there at this time. The EDPM "rubber" roof and another type called a Vinyl Roof. It's not actually vinyl, but the important thing is to know which type you have.

In either case silicon sealants should not be used. Special prupose roof sealants can be purchased at RV supply houses. You should use these products.

a big thank you. I'm seven years into a 10 yr. roof warranty and since I don't like the service department where I bought my Nomad, I thought I'd just touch it up myself...

Last year, I sealed my entire rubber roof with a product called Rapid Roof III, made by Conklin in Minnesota. It's a modified acrylic latex, that looks (in consistency), like white glue (Elmer's). You paint it on and it's supposed to add another 10 years to the life expectancy of your roof. I saw one that was painted 7 years ago, here in Phoenix, and it was still rubbery, with no cracks. If you want to see my roof, I'm at 602-978-3111, N/W Phoenix. Joe.

I have a '02 Avion 5th Wheel, and when I bought it the former owner had put clear silicone sealer on the roof to hold down his co-ax for his tv dish. It has been up there for years now, and now I am wondering what the problem is with using silicone up there. Do I need to try to remove it? How do you tell the difference between different rubber roof compounds?

Silicone will disolve the rubber material. It is VERY important that you use the correct caulking material. The caulking used on rubber roofs has a tendency to dry out and crack after about 5 years (in desert climates). The manufacturer of my trailer (Nash) used large globs of the caulk and I thought it would last forever. It doesn't!

PS- While you are at it, check the "putty" used to seal your windows. Mine has dried up and shrunk enough that you can see between the window frame and the side of the trailer. I was told that the best way to fix that is to use a plastic tool and clean out some of the old putty and then skwirt GE silicone II, clear, into the groove you have made. Use about half of what you think you need, and then smooth it out with your finger.
