These are great for certain instances... . especially where things will EAT YOU (and I'm NOt just referring to BIGS) - that's why you see so many of them in Africa and Austrailia... . does anybody make one of these here.....

HANNIBAL ROOF TOP TENTS

I've seen several roof top containers here in San Diego similiar to the ad units. Leave it to the Aussies or S. A. 's to come up with well-built,practical camping solutions for people who want a good night's rest in the middle of nowhere. I'll keep an eye out... .....

Tent site.

Logging on to that website reminds me of my stay in Australia in 1979 for three months. They had Ford Rancheros w/4wd that never made it to the states. Bookoo 'Roo Bars to deflect the kangeroos, you name it. :)

There is one I've seen many times. I belive it is called the Flippack or Fliptop. It is essentially a normal pickup shell with a tent packed in the top, similar to the pics you showed.

Do you like the camper shell????

I mean does it go up and down OK - how easy is it to put the tent material away---will it get buggered up in the latch etc... ... . these look very interesting - would you recommend them?????

Wind speeds?

I've seen the Flippac ad and would ask them what wind speeds they have tested their product at.

I owned a flippac for about 5 years (10 years ago). Good quality, very functional. no problems with the tent folding. Only problem was the torsion bar that assists in opening/closing broke. Dealer got me a replacement.

If you get one, get the optional rain fly... . will be very useful in WA.

One thing to consider..... if the tent is wet when you are ready to foldup and go, you are going to have a very damp tent when you reopen it... ... I always made sure that I opened it soon to let it air dry before storage.

The queen size bed over the truck cab was super comfortable..... my wife and I slept there... . put the 2 boys in the bed (carpet kit). They were happy and we had a little bit of privacy.

It works great in hot weather... . lots of windows (netted) for ventilation.

The fiberglass construction was very heavy duty.

Not sure what they cost now..... probably a little pricey..... but worth it.
