I have been reading lots of peoples posts about adding stuff to the bare rear cab wall to reduce noise. I was ready to order stuff. But then I noticed that when I raise and/or lower the rear seat on my 2002 Quad Cab ST that the seat back also moves when you do this? I usually keep the rear seat raised, but I also lower it sometimes.

The seat back in my 96 Club Cab did not do this. I noticed that the new seat has 3 places to latch child safety seats. I was wondering how much room I have back there? I was planning to put on a 1/16 inch sound dampening sheet and some 1/2 inch GSI Sound Stop Foam. It feels like I don't have the room to use both, since I want to be able to raise and lower the seat as needed. Anybody have any experience with the new style seat back that moves when you latch it? Thanks in advance. Klaus

Will this prove that there is enough room. Yes I was able to install the seat. #ad

Oh by the way... the capacitors, (stiffening caps) are 3 inches in diameter and everything is mounted on 1/2 inch plywood. Plenty of room if you put your mind to it. :)

Room behind seat

KL, there is at least 1. 5" from the seat back to the high side of the stiffening ribs on the back wall.

I had at one time about 1. 75" of different foams, carpet, and sheets of noise deadening materials behind my seat. And I could still lift up and latch the seat. It did compress the foam when I did latch it up.

While you have the back seat out, remove the under seat plastic box or catch-all and put some insulation under the back seat carpeting too. The floor is a huge radiator of noise.

If you can find lead sheeting, this works great, if not use a noise dampening panel deadener.

I see you have been in touch with GSI, they have the panel deadener at a very good price as well as the 1/2" 'super foam'.

Don't forget to mention the TDR, we get a 15% discount.

Let us know how the project works.

Chipstien: can you get a Bose noise cancelling system to work with that speaker setup?? That would be the end-all and be-all for noise 'reduction'??!!

Internet newsgroups are a miracle for Chipstien... communicating through typing is a lifesaver for someone whose probably unable to communicate through traditional means due to hearing loss.

:D Seriously, do you have a problem working loose welds in your body and frame?

I know you are going to think this is funny... . I really am deaf. About 50 % though, still plenty of room for more loss. :p :D . Anyways, Nate, I can fold the seat up just enough to fight the bolts lose. Makes for a great theft deturrent as you need two people to get the bolts out. Since I don't have a compartment under the seat anymore I figure that I don't need the seat to go up. No body parts have fallen off yet but the rear slider is going to drive me nuts. I am seriously contemplating getting rid of the slider because of the rattle. And the rear seat belts jump up and down and land on each other so that will make some noise. Eventually I will line the door compartments and glove box with carpet so the stuff in there doesn't rattle.

Vaugn, let me know when the next one is.

Lsfarm, what is a Bose noise cancelling system? I have found that the best way to cancel the noise is to turn the receiver off. :p ;)

Ps. I didn't get a hearing loss from the stereo though I doubt it's helping. Construction doesn't help either. :)
