Has anybody used the rotella ELC anti-freeze No selcate yet? Thoughts and comments? This weekend want to drain antifreeze, replace upper and lower radiator hoses, serpentine belt and put in a 180* thermostat. Getting ready to pull my 14,000 # 5er to Commifornia by San Bernardino to visit parents then pull to Kingman via Barstow. The up 40 through Flagstaff and Snowflake. This will get me a change to see what falls off the new Keystone Everest!!!! Actually want to see how the truck stock form pulls and handles this trailer as well as see how the trailer does. Should just about cover every kind of towing during this trip. Or at least a good test moslty. Oo.

I use it. Works fine. Just changed my serpentine belt at 105K or so, it was still solid. Radiator hoses are in great shape yet, and are original.

The Cummins place told me:

1 If you have "regular" anitfreeze in it, get ALL of it out first. The ELC is great stuff, but not compatible with the green antifreeze.

2 DO NOT use addatives in the ELC. Example: Fleetguard's DCA.

Works great for mine

I took my 7 gal of ELC to my local Jiffy Lube place. They have the machine for changing coolant. They drained the block and sucked out the radiator, then put the ELC in.

You might want to get this done now. When filling, it takes forever to wait for the t-stat to open when it is below 40 deg F.

If you have a copy of issue #35 it has a how to on the coolant change. I followed the directions and did not have any problems. I also run the Rotella ELC, its only got about 50 miles on since I did it but so far so good...

There was a great thread on ELC and regular AF on here a while back. .

One more question. Called Southwest Cummin's to get t-stat. They will only sell me the one listed for my engine serial number 190* and I want 180*. They have t-stat with Cummins part number 3954194 in stock and I think it is 180* and the right one for my truck. They will sell it to me but I want to make sure it is the right one. can anyone confirm that is the right one?

Good Grief... something else to consider...

Anyway, since my level has been close to the filling and haven't been able to locate the correct kind of coolant (okay, call me a newbie), I'm wondering if I would have any problems putting in this coolant? Also, where can I find this locally in Omaha?

Thanks, Michael

schu777 ~ not sure about Omaha really but try doing a searce for Cummins. Then use their locator to find one near you. Really a lot of people use their antifreeze and works well.

As for Rotella ELC I got mine at Walmart. I heard that some Costco's have it too though I have not seen it here. Just remember the ELC is not compatible with the regular green antifreeze. You have to get it all out even if you have to flush with hose water.

Hope that helps.

Been using the Texaco ELC Premixed for 4 years and + 100K long before other's looked at it.

Joe G. tried to beat me up verbally for using the wrong coolant (drink the green stuff Joe G!)

It's curious but Cummins, DD, Navistar, Cat, Volvo, Mitsuibishi, John Deere are now all offering the ELC fluid. To the best of my knowledge, it is all rebranded Texaco product.

Use it, it works great.
