This is probably in the wrong forum, but I don't know if it fits in any of them. Anyway here goes.

I was changing oil in the wife's Durango this afternoon when a neighbor came by and told me I was using the wrong oil. Maybe so. I was using Rotella 15-40 and he said it could cause me problems. I have had two Cummins Dodges, two chevy diesels, several chevy gassers, Ford gassers, wifes cars of sereral makes and sizes. Own a 15 year old Kubota, a John Deere, lawnmowers, sprayers, daughter's Malibu, and some stuff I have probably forgotten about. If it lives here it gets Rotella. I swear by the stuff. Does anybody else out there do this? What problems will I run into? Opinions Wanted.

Thanks

Sam Stokes

I used it up until i switched to Pre. Blue 2000,thought it was good oil, just wanted to use something w/ syn. in it

I ran a 76 Power Wagon on Rotella for over 100K miles with no problems. Use it, for one it will keep the engine cleaner inside than gasser oil will.

In the warmer weather where you live I don't see a problem with it, but there are a few things to be concerned about.

One thing to be careful of is some of the newer oil pumps don't like to pump a 40wt oil. Easy way to tell is if you have any noise (lifter, ect... ) when the truck if fully warmed up then it's too thick.

Also, some CAT convertors don't like a CH oil being burned through them. Being a Durango I'll assume it's rather new and doesn't burn any oil as of yet, so no worries.
