Big Horn Package?

Isuzu diesel in my 643 Bobcat Skid steer

Couldn't find what I wanted in a search so forgive me if this has been covered here already. We're (dad and I) in the process of switching to amsoil in our cumminsssss. Dad talked to an Amsoil distributor and asked a lot of questions and got some answers. The guy said that Rotella/Shell has been bought by Penzoil(sp?). Anybody know anything about this. Just wondering if the biggest name in big rig oil is the same as it used to be.

Doesn't make any difference really. We're getting Amsoil 15w-40 for less than the Rotella was from Wal-mart. Can't pass that up. And no, it's not the blend.

No oil war hijackers please,. I'm just looking for info.

Shell Oil attempted to purchase the Pennzoil-Quaker State Company in March 2002 for $1. 8 billion, but it was tied up until the FTC cleared it in September 2002, and on October 1, 2002 Shell was given the all clear to go ahead with the deal.

So your Amsoil dealer gots it backwards & is about 3 years late. :)

no oil wars! why do people just not get it. mobil 1 is the best true synthetic on the market and it is more readily available at a better price. i just wanted to point out to you that there is no such thing as a 100% synthetic 15w40. if it says synthetic its lieing to you. a 15w40 is not stable as a synthetic. amsoil had a printup explaining this about 2 years ago. go with mobil 1 5w40 truck and suv formula.

The last dose of Rosmella I used came in different packaging. Smelled the same, must BE the same. ;)

But my all out favorite oil is made over in yon hills, there's this guy who cooks off a batch of 'shine and then reconfigures the outfit to produce synthetic base stocks while simultaneously refining crude oil (that he gets direct from Alaska via Mexico). But let me tell you this the 'shine is real good with fresh tomatoes and will clean the fire out of a carburetor. And the oil he makes is 1W-50 PROOF, it never gets dirty cause the shine residue cooks off the soot particulates and the result is more energy for your date on Saturday night. Oo. Roger?

You are asserting that Redline's 15w-40 is not synthetic, and that Royal Purple's 15w-40 is not synthetic?

The statement that "there is no such thing as a 100% synthetic 15w40" is not only false, but only serves to display the ignorance of the person making it.

Lets not turn this into personal attacks please. There are several quality synthetic oils available. To claim one is the best hands down is fine as long as you realize it's this person's opinion until it can be backed by scientific data.

Someone on another board stated that the new synthetic Mobil 1 5w-40 Truck & SUV formula is really just rebadged & repackaged Delvac 1 synthetic, purportedly for better consumer awareness / better brand marketing.

I was going to reply to this as I have tried out, tested and tried to prove one one over the other... . but I find my thoughts in such a quander after reading this I cannot possibly respond.

I can't answer your question but I have used Rotella, may even have a gallon of used Rotella in the garage I need to recycle. I use Amsoil and... ... . whatever.

I use Rotella and always have. Never had any engine failures in anything I have serviced and have never had any oil related problems.

Conversation with Royal Purple

Had a great and informative email swap with the guys at RP. My concern was whether or not we are really getting true synthetic and not synthetic made from crude.

RP is made from natural gas, and no crude stock. Most other "synthetics" are made from crude. This has minimal effect on reducing reliance on crude, which is my goal, on a personal level. I will be switching to Royal Purple for it's reputation and the base stock component.
