Does any one out there know locations of shops that can turn rotors on 4WD rams on the vehicle. DC recommends this and there cost is very high. Is there another method of turning rotors off the truck that works as well. Any experiences would be appreciated.

I don't trust resurfaced rotors, I just buy new ones$$$ :( . That's also why I bought a PacBrake after my first brake job at 28,000 miles. The service manual states that the rotors should be resurfaced on the truck. I've never seen the machinery to do that. Besides that, you'll have to pay for them to do the whole job unless you tow it in or something. Just my $0. 02.

Berrigan... .

First let me say welcome to the TDR as I see your a newbie. Now on to your question. I do not see where your located at but it really does not matter. Any auto parts house with a machine shop or a brake shop can turn the rotors for you if you desire to do your own work. Stealerships charge a way overpriced per hour labor charge to do their "work" and this is the reason as you probably already know. Do a search here on the rotor removal and you'll find, other than a little time consuming, its not a hard job to do. Biggest thing you may need if you do not have one is a puller to remove the hub assembly from the front axles. As for pads I use the Carbomets from TDR member Sam Peterson on mine and they do a great job. Little or no dust and they stop as well cold as hot. Hope this helps some... ... . Andy

Just an hour ago I was at Midas asking about turning the rotors while still on the truck. They are the only ones I know here in Lawrence, Ks, that can turn them on the truck. $99. 00 to do them both. I've had them turned lightly twice in 165k, & both times they still had a slight wobble. Next time I'll have them turned ... ... ON THE TRUCK!

In my opinion don't turn them, just buy new ones. If they are warped they will likely warp again. If they are scored, don't let it happen again by replacing your pads before they're worn out. Routine turning when replacing pads isn't necessary with these rotors, just take the glaze off with sandpaper. Midas' price is cheap, I've seen up to $250 for on the rig turning. Why pay even $99 when you can buy new 4wd rotors for $60/ea or 2wd for $100/ea?
