German Army VW Diesel Van

Tier 2 and Tier 3/Tier 3 Stage 4 Emissions

The last two mornings I have gone to start up my dads truck while he is at work(we dont have 30 day tags on it yet) and when you start it up it idles fine, but if I put my foot on the pedal ever so lightly and press it down about 1/2inch and release, the truck starts to idle very rough. If I press on the pedal hard(not to the floor or anything), then the idle picks back up and idles smoothly. When I backed it out of the driveway today to bring it over into our other driveway backing up in reverse to where i was just barely pressing the pedal it started rough idling again, like it wanted to die. Now after a few minutes of warming up, this problem goes away. What do you all think is the cause for this?

is the fuel your using cut yet? it coulda gelled up on ya. also have you used fuel injector cleaner in it yet? it never hurts to put some of that in a tank every now and then :)

Are you plugging in , next is the grid heaters working [ pulsing gauge] , then what kind of temps are you seeing , gelling is not as comin as it seems , I've heard of a product that is good for ungelling , I think it was Diesel Service heat or hot , other wize just there normal winter aditive , or some other brand .

You'd probably get better advice over in the 1st gen forums... I can't speak intelligently about 1st gen issues.

If your fuel is gelled I would use the POWERSERVE product in the red bottle I think the product is called 911 Antigel. Also I would use regular power serve ( or HOWES)in the white bottle not the silver bottle that is for warm month's THE WHOLE BOTTLE at first to absorb any water you mite have in your tank than use 1/2 a bottle after that. Any of the major winter fuel anti gel should work any brand your choice. As a Long haul trucker I have always used Power serve or HOWES I would put them at the top of the heap so to speak. To address the topic of water in your fuel find a better supplier of fuel some place that sells a lot of fuel you should not be getting a lot of water in your fuel have your supplier dip the tanks and check for water if they won't do it run don't walk away from that supplier. Remember today's fuels are a lower quality product than just 10 years ago Heck 5 years ago. you should consider changing your fuel filters often if water is a real problem for you as the water will gel in the filter also. If you have a lot of water in your tank consider dropping your tank and properly disposing of the contents and fill up with a good batch of #2. Good luck. Tod
