Hi all been a member since I got my 3500 SRW 5. 9 6speed only have 14,000 miles on it the other day comming back from my clubs cabin in NY I started to have a lag and stumbling when starting off and rough idle no codes runs fine in higher rpm but 1000-1800 dont feel right a bad fuel control actuator already??

I would suspect a sticking injector, especially if the truck has not been run hard. I've had a couple of bouts of 'rough idle' and cleaned it up by running an injector cleaner/lubricator through it. The first time I was around 60K miles and it freaked me out. I removed the fuel filter to make sure I didn't have contaminated fuel, then re-filled the filter canister with a can of Sea Foam. Idle was resolved in about 2 minutes!

I think Sea Foam may be too strong for regular use, the second time it happened I used Cummins Valvoline Injector Cleaner/Lube.

Since then I been better about running the truck hard and haven't had a re-occurance.

do you have a stock type filter system? if so i'll bet it's debris passing through the injector. could also be doing the same to the FCA.

Thanks all just to give you a little more info Truck all stock all filters changed 12,500 miles and up date I dont think its injector problem I been using Opti -lube in the fuel all the time I know the truck has low miles but when it gets used pulling trailers and hunting trip i have no problem getting on it to clean it out so to speak. Now the update when cold runs normal no movement in the stick shifter as soon as the water temp comes up to 200 it runs rough also going down to work CEL came on P0302 (2)cleared and comming home this am a P0304 (4) cylinder misfire this happened overnight I am going with a bad sensor since it looks to be a heat is the cause but what do I know I am a electrician in the room Steve

nothing mechanicle would change due to temp, so my guess is electronic sensor somewhere, sounds like a load issue, dealing with temp.

As far as i know the trucks have a cold engine protection defuel untill opperating temp then they give full power

i would check the IAT sensor, Boost sensor, and ECT sensors check the resistance, clean them put dialectric grease on them and reassemble, if that dont work go to the dealer, or a borrow a scanner, tell me what codes you have.

Truck went in to the dealer on Thursday P0304 code in the ECM so a new in injector on order Did run some cleaner got better but still not 100% and now getting white smoke when the truck is 1st started cold thanks for your input I keep you updated when the new injector is installed. Steve

I am 99. 9% sure it won't be new, Chrysler dealers are installing remans and most cases NOT by Cummins. If the Injector failed electronically you will be fine, if any other type of failure the remaining ones have 50/50 chance of following sued, We have received rails from all over the North American content and some of the junk that we find has to have a detrimental effect on the injectors.

Update truck went in to the dealer they say they replaced the injector with a new one and a program update now running like new. I didnt think it was a injector I was thinking a sensor cause of the change with temp but how wrong I was Steve
