Has anyone had a problem with the engine rolling at idle? It sounds like a Detroit Diesel with the buffer screw turned in too far. The lift pump pressure gauge goes berserk and looks like the needle will bend on it's stops. This has happened three times in 20,000 miles, one time it lasted 100 miles while pulling my R. V. trailer.
The last time it happened, I checked the return fuel regulating valve on the injection pump, and found the ball not seating properly. Replacing the valve seemeed to remedy the problem until today. Cycling the ignition switch, like when filling the fuel filter, seems to make the problem go away. Several times, when starting, the engine would start to lope and then straighten out. I have not been able to get the truck to a dealer and have the problem occur.
HELP!!!
